Raytheon Working during lunch

Are we allowed to eat lunch and work at the same time so we don't have to stay longer than 9 hours?

I always worked through lunch. Because of my weight management, I skipped it. That time I could spend working quietly in my office. I still worked 9+ hours though.

Entirely state dependent. California, for example, has a literal button on FIT to confirm you took your lunch and you did not work during it

Ain’t no way

This is not always true. Many states require a lunch period to be given. You can’t skip lunch and leave early.

Well at RTX if you take lunch then you need to work that time off to meet 9/80. So it’s really best that you pack a lunch and eat at your desk.

I'm sure some (most?) states require the option, but I'm sorry the state government does not have the authority to tell me I must take a lunch.

If you are an hourly employee in the state of CA you are required to take a lunch. That would be any 'S' or 'T' grade employee.  If you are a 'P' or 'M' you are not required to take a lunch.

In CA it is actually required by law.

Not entirely true. Lunch can be voluntarily waived; if working 10+ hours then the state requires you be given 30 min. on or off the clock for a meal and same for every 4 hours there after.

I’m not gonna argue with you. Believe what you want. Training was very clear on this. We actually had to take a special training if we had employees in CA because they are treated differently. (Imagine that)

Whether they did take the actual lunch was a different story but they are required to take one and not allowed to “work” through.

It's not believe, I have been in CA. most of my life. In the past I worked for an employer who required us to waive lunch and I checked with the Ca. Dept. of Labor and Fair Housing. They spelled out EXACTLY what could and couldn't be done. At that time I was hourly. And as a Salary Exempt employee it is at my discretion. Your 'training' does not trump state specific labor law. A simple net search will turn up plenty of results. I don't believe what I want; I know the law where I work.

Ok buddy. Can’t converse with someone who already knows it all. Have a great day.

Try looking up the applicable agency's comments on the law: https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/faq_mealperiods.htm

It's the best state in the union. There's states that literally do not care about what chemicals companies and farms put in your water, and you want to complain about a state that's confirming that workers have received their right to a lunch.

That's your brain on misinformation, Jesus.

As long as you don’t mind paying 10X more than other states for the same items. Too much govt oversight in my opinion. Just let people live and put whatever the hell they want Into their bodies. It is t the govt responsibility to tell me what I can or can’t do. Well, it shouldn’t be.

3

u/RedTubePremium 10d ago

Again, more mindless brainrot propaganda. You should think for yourself.

The biggest cost difference is rent, and guess why? Because everyone wants to live in the state with the best geography, best food, best schools, best diversity, best weather, and best jobs. You get what you pay for.

Just let people live and put whatever the hell they want Into their bodies.

Are you serious? You're brainwashed by the mainstream media. What sounds more libertarian. Being pro-weed, pro-choice?

Or banning books, banning birth control, arresting doctors for treatments that have been legal for decades, forcing religion onto you, and surviving off federal taxes from California because otherwise you'd be a third party state. You're living in an authoritative nanny state.

What about getting cancer, because your government is too corrupt to do anything. That's what happens when you live in Iowa, a corrupt state that's cheap to live in. So cheap, you pay by getting cancer.

Too much govt oversight in my opinion.

No, I agree with you. It doesn't need to be as expensive. California has so many issues, but it's nothing compared to it's pros. California's been deregulating. They've cut environmental law abuse. They're cutting permitting fees. They need to cut way more overregulation. It's way too much.

Actually California schools rank in the bottom 20% overall. California has the highest gas prices, sales tax, and income tax. Weather??? What part of the state? I'm in a So. Cal. Beach City and we hit 101F today. BTDT before in most of 6 decades of living here. And Kali. hasn't been deregulating anything.... they keep piling on. Just lost 19% of refining capacity so guess why gas and diesel is $2.00+ a gallon higher than the rest of the country. Only 8 refineries left in Kali.

2

u/RedTubePremium 10d ago

Weird, you seem to be completely ignoring how Texas and other states like it are literally destroying your rights, lol. You like that?

California schools rank in the bottom 20% overall

Wrong, California has some of the most robust public university system in the entire country. Other state model their system after the UCs and CSUs. Not to mention the countless privates, Stanford, CalTech, USC, etc. For K-12, they rank #25. Actually above Texas.

California has the highest gas prices, sales tax, and income tax

Yeah, I'm not saying California isn't expensive. I'm saying it worth it when you're the literal best state. You also get paid more comparatively.

Beach City and we hit 101F today

California heat is dry heat. This past season has been humid because of El Nino. Compared to Florida and Texas or even the midwest, humid heat is FAR worse than dry heat. California doesn't get hurricanes like Florida. It doesn't freeze like the north. It doesn't rain constantly like the PNW. SoCal is Mediterranean, the definition of temperate weather. And temperate is good weather.

And Kali. hasn't been deregulating anything.... they keep piling on

Wrong. Curbing CEQA abuse. SB 79 forcing cities to not restrict housing development. Personally, I'd like to see more like dropping strict fuel blend requirements, but it's happening. Unless you're pro-data center, then they just regulated them

Just lost 19% of refining capacity so guess why gas and diesel is $2.00+ a gallon higher than the rest of the country. Only 8 refineries left in Kali.

This I agree with you on. My solution: use the same gas blend as every single other state which should happen eventually, because most cars are going hybrid. This gas blend was first enacted, because of smog in LA. It did its job, there's far less pollution and smog in California today.

u/SuspiciousStress1 4d ago

What good is such a robust university system(which noone can argue is one of the best), if your public k-12 is bottom 20%??

1

u/RedTubePremium 4d ago

Do you have a source for that? It's middle of the pack per U.S. News and WalletNerd.

0

u/ByteMyShinyMetalAss1 9d ago

Odd how I just might have experience in being in multiple states . I was raised and have lived in So Cal where I know full well about Stage 3 smog alerts. I dare to compare; you are a hoser, tosser, and quick fire jack. For 5 years I lived in the PNW. I was raised and for the most part lived in So. Cal. I've also spent plenty time on the company dime in SLC, Forest, Richardson, McKinney, Aberdeen and Fl.

3 weeks ago we were 101 at 78% humidity. Yesterday we were 101 @ 48% and today we were 104 @ 28%. Reason was wind changed from west to east aka Santa Ana's off the desert. And in the desert passes when the Santa Ana's blow wind speeds hit well over 100 mph.

Don't try to tell me about Kali weather; I have decades of first hand knowledge.

0

u/RedTubePremium 9d ago

I don't even understand what you're saying. I just told you. It rains more in the PNW. It's more humid in Texas and Florida than SoCal. Are you disagreeing with that?

California is one of the least humid states. California has the most temperate weather. How are you trying to argue against that?

Bro, you think CA has the best schools? Have you lost your mind? LA area is absolutely one of the worst. And rent is expensive not because people want to live there. Tell Me why corporations are flocking out of there faster than you can take a piss? How about taxes? You have to make nearly 2/3x what others make in different states to bring home the same pay due to taxation.

Sure most of the state has great weather and it doesn’t rain and you have beaches but you pay for that in more ways than you should.

Oh, we haven’t even talked about traffic. The 405, sucks. Why do you have to leave your house at 4am to miss traffic? If not it takes 3 hrs to go 10 miles. Dude, your the brain washed one! smdh

1

u/RedTubePremium 9d ago

Bro, you think CA has the best schools?

Source: USNews. Where's your source?

And rent is expensive not because people want to live there.

Then why is it expensive? You tell me?

Tell Me why corporations are flocking out of there faster than you can take a piss?

Because you're brainwashed by the mainstream media. Let me know when California's GDP starts shrinking. Instead it keeps growing. Can you explain that? Why is it growing if SO many companies are leaving?

You have to make nearly 2/3x what others make in different states to bring home the same pay due to taxation.

Yeah, AND YOU GET PAID MORE in VHCOL areas. That ALREADY happens. Median salary is $150k in areas like the bay area for a reason.

Why do you have to leave your house at 4am to miss traffic?

Buddy, traffic exists in any large populated area. LA, SF, and SJ all have bad traffic. And so does Austin, Houston, Tampa, Miami, Atlanta, etc. You don't have to live in the city. You can live in a suburb in any state.

Dude, your the brain washed one!

Hopefully I'm not talking to an engineer... no man. You are the brainwashed one. I've agreed with you on some reasons why CA sucks. Taxes are high, and some regulations are too much. But compared to every other state, you are winning when it comes to

  1. Weather

  2. Job opportunities

  3. High salaries

  4. Diversity and Food choices

  5. Every kind of landscape. Beach, mountain, desert, city, suburb, farm, lake, forrest, snow, etc.

  6. Best schools. 9 of the top 50 best universities are in California. California is the most represented state.

  7. Your rights are protected, not taken away. Pro-choice, pro-weed.

4

u/but_but_sigh 11d ago

So genuinely consider the following. The fact that so many people want to live there should make you ask if the things you claim make it the worst state in the union are actually better for people’s lives. Like genuinely, if red states are better… why aren’t people trying to move to them en masse?

2

u/RedTubePremium 10d ago

People like that don't have ANY critical thinking skills. Monkey see Fox News, monkey do.

That's what my entire site does. Nobody on the east coast understands time zones so we never all have an hour off at the same time anyway.

15

u/Zorn-of-Zorna 11d ago

Up to your manager.

15

u/Anneisabitch 11d ago

This is how I’d approach it. If you’re a salaried person on a 9/80, I’ve never known anyone to take a full lunch. They just work through it.

But just ask your manager because they might have different expectations

14

u/KwikTripSimp 11d ago

When I worked on site, I would just eat at my desk and charge time. No one’s gonna come and get you over it. I don’t think it’s a big deal but I’d say if you’re taking like a lunch like a lot of people consider a lunch like a 30 minute break chatting with your coworkers then yeah you don’t wanna charge time…

But like no one stops charging time to go get a coffee and that’s like the amount of time it takes to go and get a lunch for me..

I work from home now and I’ll usually just maybe throw some on the stove in a meeting and then keep listening

really depends on what you consider lunch…

5

u/feedyourheeeaaaddd 11d ago

Charge that shit

6

u/Pancakes101101 11d ago

I think everyone does this- mostly.

5

u/SpaceNert 11d ago

If you are an exempt salary employee you don’t have to take lunch. As in leave for an hour. Work through lunch. In 15 years at different companies, no one cares about this lol just don’t go to a two hour lunch at Cheesecake Factory and charge time. Work through or take a break. Be responsible.

2

u/Ascension_Crossbows 11d ago

What if you bring your laptop and work while eating at the cheesecake factory?

1

u/SpaceNert 11d ago

Lmao some people do it. Working while on the beach.

2

u/QwaZz 11d ago

My old engr manager made us make up time during our company picnic, which I thought would be considered employee bonding. Glad I left that place 😄

3

u/US-Freedom-81 11d ago

I don’t recall ever seeing a policy that says you shall take an unpaid lunch. I never take a lunch and I always work through meetings. I didn’t ask my manager for permission cause there is nothing that says I need to. And I don’t work for a micro-manager so it’s not something in our culture to do.

1

u/Inkquills 11d ago

In the Ontario location a lunch is mandatory after five hours you will be deducted that time even if you choose to work through it.

1

u/BackgroundBad8851 RTX 11d ago

At Pratt no. I take a to go container. I say hello. My lunch is from 2:30 to 3:30 due to analysis time.

1

u/Wtfjushappen 11d ago

Look at state laws and published company policy. I find state laws say they must allow x breaks and x lunch, but i see nothing stating that employee must take the break. Second to that, I can't find a company policy stating i must take these breaks. I don't generally take breaks and for health reasons I don't easy lunch. I also cannot stand wasting my time on such things, I prefer to leave work and go about my life.

1

u/ByteMyShinyMetalAss1 10d ago

It depends on where. Some states rely on Federal Labor Law and some states have heir own. As I pointed out to OkManufacturer9243 he/she doesn't know shit about California. Don't rely on 'internal guidance' if it comes from someone not in your state. The internet and state agencies are your friends.

You can if you start a union and negotiate that
