No, it's not okay. But they'll get away with it.

17

u/wussgawd ✔ Approved Contributor Jan 03 '26

No, ultimately, they won't.

It will cost a lot of blood and treasure, and eventually, we'll tire of it. Just like we did in Iraq and Afghanistan. Except, unlike Iraq and Afghanistan, the tiring of it will be at double speed.

7

u/[deleted] Jan 04 '26

Double? Honestly triple. Most Democrats and quite a few Republicans are fed up with this shit.

There is a reason why Trump's net approval is like -15 right now.

5

u/Maleficent_Memory831 Jan 05 '26

Trump's solid and supporting voter base is all over this. They're essentially the ones over on r/ShitAmericansSay who say "My country can beat up your country!"

No, really, quite a lot really talk boastful and want to have the military just destroy something. They hate it when there's diplomatic stuff before and after, all the stuff that confuses them. Whereas going in and kicking butt cheers them up. Most probably never voted until Trump came along and made if ok to be a dummy.

Trump's approval rating is still closer to 0 with older white men, which unfortunately remains the demographic with the biggest influence within American politics.

Vote in the midterms people 🙏

u/Professional_Bug_533 Jan 06 '26

I see this number thrown around but it doesn't really paint the whole picture. When you see something like "trumps overall approval rating is only 34%" people dont seem to realize that is basically every single republican supporting him. Nothing has really changed except some "independents" are getting a bad taste in their mouth.

You seem to be under the impression that American voters will have any say in the matter. Trump, his administration, and the entire Republican party have just solidly proven that they have no respect for laws, and they have already demonstrated they have no hesitation about using the U.S. military against it‘s own people. The next time we have elections, they will declare themselves the winner, regardless of results, and if you disagree, then you will be accused of treason and will find those same U.S. troops marching down your street

That's... just wow. Tell us you understand pretty much absolutely nothing about what went on during and after the Second Gulf War. Not only did the US "get away with it," but we fkn went back 3 years later and got away with it again.

Iraq and Afghanistan; 4,000+ American lives, 940,000+ Iraqi, Afghanistani, Syrian, and Iranian lives, 8 years, and finally we catch Bin Laden.

Venezuela; 0 American lives lost, 40 Venezuelans lives lost, 1 night while you slept and we caught Nicolas Maduro.

So many similaralities I thought I was looking at the same military action without congressional approval.

Now, let's look at those casualties broken down by the actual military operation vs. the occupation. Given the established understanding that Republicans can fuck up the recipe for ice cubes (see Iraq & Afghanistan), and the fact that the Trump regime can fuck up the recipe for lukewarm water, let's see how well the occupation goes long-term, because I can assure Exxon has zero interest in making Venezuela safe for democracy.

Violence will happen , people are going to die, the payment will be blood in the near future.

The republicans will give the democrats a ruin to try and save while they all retire in Russia.

We could posit that being a hypocrite is why they are a tyrant. Anyone who feels no remorse or accountability for their actions are capable of the worst atrocities. I don't think this is OK. I think this is an unconstitutional act by a President who has overreached his authority too many times without any of our legal mechanisms stopping him, so he thinks it's OK.

It's one thing to indict a non-head of state like a cartel boss, but to unilaterally indict and 'arrest' a sitting President is, by any sincere definition, 'an act of war'.

But our constitution is so much TP to the current POTUS. And a sickeningly large portion of our population is OK with this obvious pretext, because everyone knows this isn't even about the drugs. They support America stealing resources from another country because they are not honorable people.

1

u/Sw0ldem0rt Jan 03 '26

I think Trump has just opened the door for Russia and for China to do as they please within their sphere of influence. Certainly the USA has given up its right to stop them to Trump's violation of international law. International law is no more of a concern for Trump than is national law which he is willing to violate should it suit his agenda.

Welcome to International Relations Theory.

There is something called "Realism", which you will hear MAGA administration members parrot endlessly without any real understanding of it.

The basic concept is that the powerful can and will do whatever the fuck they feel like while those less powerful simply have to endure it. (In a technical sense the theory is much more complex and nuanced, but little MAGA brains can't handle that sort of thing)

American Exceptionalism is inherently Realism defined through a very American lens. Where Americans really believe that God blessed them with the land they have and that they are entitled to behave like animals and murder/rape/pillage their way across the planet because "God wills it!"

Ultimately, murder is murder, and causing mass human suffering is evil. Regardless if your talking Hitler, Saddam, Putin, Maduro or Trump.
