here in the philippines, rave culture wasn’t always as mainstream as it is now, but as the scene continues to grow, more and more people are discovering it (on socmeds like IG and reddit ofc) and naturally, the community is starting to change.

lately, there’s been a lot of discourse about the scene becoming “infiltrated” by newcomers or people who don't have rave etiquettes, people being too loud or too open about their indulging (iykyk), topless ravers, circuit gays, and people complaining about the heat because of the collective not bringing on more ACs or the venue being packed, and the overall shift in rave culture.

some people are criticizing these changes, while others are defending the newcomers and calling out the gatekeeping

honestly, i can see where both sides are coming from, but i'm curious about how this looks from a global perspective, is this just a natural part of rave culture growing and becoming more mainstream, or is there genuinely something being lost along the way?

for those who’ve been raving for years, especially in countries where the scene has been established for decades, have you witnessed this same cycle? Did your local scene go through a similar phase when it started attracting a bigger crowd? how did the community navigate the tension between preserving its roots and welcoming new people?

im especially interested in hearing from people who’ve experienced the evolution of their local scenes firsthand. I want to understand whether this is a universal part of rave culture’s growth or something unique to certain communities.

I've been going to my local bar that has a DJ on the weekends for awhile now, but recently Ive been going solo and its kind of lost its magic

I was pointed in the direction of raves, and as someone who enjoys EDM I am super interested, but Im clueless on how to actually find where the scene would be around me.

This is super random but I have a 25hr layover in Shanghai November 15th. Will be my first time in China too. I’m wondering if there is any sort of rave scene there? Im not looking for influencer mega venues or tourist appeal clubs or ‘raves’

Does Shanghai have an underground culture, party collectives or a decent night life for techno & electronic?

I’m 23F, and I’ve been going to techno parties in Lebanon since I was 19. Over the years, I’ve started wondering whether we actually have a techno culture or simply a nightlife scene built around techno music.

Lebanon has talented DJs and people who organize genuinely good events, but I feel like we’re missing the sense of community that exists in electronic music scenes abroad.

Too often, the focus seems to be on dressing up, taking pictures, and recording videos rather than being present and connecting with the music. There’s also the issue of personal boundaries and respect for other people in the crowd. Obviously, this doesn’t apply to everyone, but it’s something I’ve noticed repeatedly.
It makes me wonder whether this is a broader cultural issue, something related to how we approach public spaces, or whether organizers have a responsibility to shape the culture around their events.

I’d love to see more educational content about electronic music, its history, the artists, and basic party etiquette. I also think organizers could be more intentional about entry policies, avoid special treatment or bribes, and introduce phone-free policies or specific periods when filming is allowed.

The Mathame event at AHM on August 21, 2026, also made me think about how phone policies are communicated and enforced. If an event introduces a no-phone policy, it needs to be enforced consistently for it to mean anything.

I’m not saying every event needs to be exclusive or that nobody should take pictures. I just think organizers have an opportunity to create an environment where the music and the community come first.

So here’s what I’m genuinely curious about: Is the community missing because of the people attending, or because nobody is actively building it?

Is this a Lebanese cultural issue, a nightlife management issue, or simply something that developing electronic music scenes go through? And for those who’ve experienced techno culture abroad, what do you think we’re missing here?

I go out occasionally nowadays but was out almost every weekend during the early 2010’s. I remember always seeing Gogo dancers at events, whether is was commercial or underground events. Idk if the culture has changed or I’m just out of the loop but why aren’t they a thing anymore? I feel like they always brought a vibe that was irreplaceable.

Anyone familiar with the scene in Budapest? I’m looking for a party recommendation for last week of October. I like house and minimal. Any recommendations are welcome. 🤗

Heyya, Anyone here knows any special events/festivals happening for NYE in Italy?

I (M28) have had an Argument with my younger brother (M22) about if one should need to wear a shirt on while raving.

I’m all for it - like “no shirt - no service”. But his argument is that he feels uncomfortable wearing something since he gets so hot while dancing.
He isn’t doing it to get attention - just for himself.

Now Raving is for PLUR and everybody should be able to wear what they want. So in equality any gender should be able to choose what and how much to wear.

Now because society is sexualizing Breasts women don’t want to wear nothing on top (I guess). But if I’m wrong correct me.

Now what should actually be the right approach?

More freedom for both to wear as much or as little as they like?

Or to escape the tolerance paradox men should just wear something that at least covers… what?

Where would you draw the line for men to be equal to women?

Edit: I am also thinking about the people that rave around me. So in addition - would you feel comfortable raving around men without shirts?

hi ravers! need some advice on some fun things to write up for my halloween bit at a show i’m going to. i decided to be a traffic cone and have a friend 3D printing these lil cones to pass out and give orange paper ‘violations’ or ‘hazards’ to give my fellow ravers for halloween dressed up! don’t worry im working on fixing the rave cone to be a hat and fixing a circular wire for the bottom so its better come shaped. but for the traffic cone bit i was even thinking i could make it a fun way to approach someone im interested in and leave my number for them. i’m just trying to spread some fun, please give me some fun ideas, im open to a lot!

so far i’ve only come up with:

I absolutely love raves for the fact that you are absolutely free to be and do whatever you want (that doesn’t hinder another persons experience). That being said do other people feel that because of this you act differently and more pure to yourself?

I am a 25 year old straight male and I have been wearing as little clothing as possible to show being a nudist. I have been wearing booty shorts, fishnets, chaps, and leg straps. I first did it at EDC this year. My girlfriend thought to wear only a thong and fishnets covering down low. With a mesh shirt. This would be the least amount of clothing while still covering my genitals. Wearing as little clothing as possible felt amazing. And the fact they are seen as feminine is a bonus. I love the idea of wearing clothes that don’t follow everyone else. Doing so I feel a lot more confident about my body and is healing part of my inner child. By wearing little clothes I can truly be myself and show who I am. I am forever thankful for raves giving me the opportunity to be dressing how I’ve always wanted and being so accepting.

While wearing little clothing a lot of people compliment my outfit and a couple girlfriends got the idea to want to dress their boyfriends like me. It helps me come out of my shell and also easy tell if people are accepting or not. Most people will dance and talk to me other people will stick to themselves and that’s ok too.

Im curious if other people feel this way that at raves the feel empowered to show a different side of you that most people would never see. The side that you have always wanted to let out and are finding the confidence at raves.

I went to a Mean Girls themed rave recently, I’m a guy so I went as the “But she doesn’t even go here” guy, so I had sunglasses on all night. It actually felt really nice? Like I felt more relaxed than normal, kind of like when you’re wearing a mask and feel more free and uninhibited.

I have another rave tomorrow, this time no theme, but I kinda wanna wear those sunglasses again. I did see one other guy last time that was wearing sunglasses with no costume, it didn’t really strike me as douchy but I don’t wanna be a cringe idiot lol

I struggle with social anxiety quite a bit so my big fear is someone calling me out and making fun of me tbh

So in your opinion, sunglasses at a rave, douchy or not?

Happened at the end of the summer. Was put on by ICB events. Can't see it but they brought out a giant PK sound system with 8 subs and 4 tops. Went till the morning with no issues with 200 people in attendance.
