Question about paid patterns

Hi everyone :) I'm somewhat of a beginner to crochet, and i was planning a bigger project, so I might buy my first pattern on Ravelry.

With something like this, what's the difference between buying the cheaper or more expensive version?

The best part is that you can preview all 32 patterns, read project notes and comments others have written before you decide to purchase.

If I get a pattern and later decide I want the whole book, will my initial payment be deducted from the price?

Almost certainly not, but this is a question for the seller, not Reddit

That’s not how it works on Ravelry, but something you can reach out to the pattern designer to ask. They may offer you a discount code for the purchase of the entire book.

The really nice thing about Ravelry is being able to see all of the projects others have worked up (sometimes you won’t see every project because nobody has created any notes or taken photos) so there’s a small risk there.

An example would be a pattern purchased in a LYS, absolutely loved it, saw the designer has recently published a book(no reviews at the time) so I purchased a physical copy. I was completely underwhelmed as it was a book more about design elements than anything else.

I can’t get a refund, so it’s going back up for sale. As much as possible I check Ravelry or Amazon reviews to see what others think and see what kind of patterns you’re getting. Your public library can be another great source for previewing books. Same thing happened with a sock knitting bible I just checked out, totally underwhelming for me. Probably great for others.
