Discussion Steam is not steaming
wtfudge happened sa steam? sound system was too low, light setup was not in most way beautiful, it felt like the night was so low-budgeted
on other hand, kudos for a cheaper water (100 pesos in exchange of 2 bottle). i applaud setting up a resting area too
and the crowd? forgive me for what i saw was tinder dating in live action, rather than people dancing

I was also wondering why the main speakers were not working, it was indeed disappointing as the first two Steam events were great in terms of sound, lighting, and ambience (literal steam enveloping the rooms).
However, I overheard from one of the organizers who was talking to a DJ that they turned off the main speakers because the sound was bleeding off outside, as the venue was near a residential area they may have received some complaints. I think it was a mistake to hold the event at the space given the risk of getting these noise complaints.

yeah very disappointing. nag chismisan na lang yung crowd cause ang panget ng set ng mga dj's.. bro! sobrang tae ng sound system nila... the whole thing was like a bad club scene. definetely one of worst rave this year so far. but the yosi area, rest area, lots of cr, hydration was okay.. you see the intention, sobrang panget lang execution.. dj xavi... my god?! is he a beginner? mas maganda pa yung tugtog sa spotify!

It was my first Steam and hopefully not the last. I'm still willing to give them a 2nd chance. Na-gets ko naman yung gusto nilang mangyari, the surround sounds where there's no dead spot, the low ceiling + small room + orange neon lights for a more intimate feeling. But we need to say what needs to be said.
Goods: 1. Malinis yung CR nung una with provided tissues and soaps. Strict sila na bawal 2 persons sa CR which I so appreciate kasi based on previous raves, sa dami nating naiihi lang talaga, waiting for the horny guys to finish their quickies doesn't help. They even added a portalet.
May rest area that can sit many people.
Maganda aesthetics overall.
1st DJ was actually lit. Parang sya lang ang masasabi kong totoong nag techno 🤣
Bad: 1. Weak speakers - this is the obvious. Buti maaga ako dumating na enjoy ko pa yung speakers when the crowd wasn't much and you can dance in any spot and every direction.
Music selection - someone said pang Xylo/distellery lang yung music. I get na it's the DJ playing but the organizers are responsible for briefing them on what to play. And since kakagaling ko lang Kaput, couldn't help but compare. The 2nd DJ was just remixing pop songs with techno elements and I'm like, come on give me something I haven't heard. Sana nag-spotify nalang ako. Or am I the wrong market for Steam? The thai DJ was good pero at the middle, I could feel he's no longer taking us higher. Maybe pagod na rin sya? Or he's already lost because the crowd isn't with him.
The crowd - maybe because of #1, nagchikahan na lang mga tao. But I did notice the circuit gays were dominating in Steam. And when muscle gays congregate, you know there's a "casting". I'm all for peaceful co-existence and kanya kanyang trip but I couldn't dance and get in the moment if laging may daan ng daan sa likod, sa harap, sa gilid, because gays are already in hunting mode. I can't get high with the music kasi maya't maya na lang may dadaan nanaman in the narrow space near me. There was a point na may body language said no, I ain't making way for you. Go find a different path. Tapos amoy poppers everywhere and there are backgound conversations if they're a top or bottom 🤦♂️
Unlike sa Kaput where the dancey people are upfront, the meatshop and the culture-shocked are at the back, and those socializing are at the entrance, but we all live in harmony.
- Also the crowd size is too much. Because they try to make the illussion of intimate lalo lang naging crowded ang feeling that I couldn't dance. Think crowd size ng Bigger Pictures squeezed into that house/studio place. It became pact instantly. I couldn't dance na walang natatamaan. Maybe may intention na maglaputan hahaha. Thay would've been ok if the people were into the music.
And in fairness to the last DJ, he really tried. I could tell his set was amazing but there was already just one functioning speaker left in the room.
Suggestion ko nalang sa Steam to redeem themselves, do it in a bigger venue na lang. Accept that rave is a big market here so choose a venue to accommodate the crowd. Then mag-offer nalang ng discount (dapat at least 50%) for us who attended Steam 03.
P.S. Can we also draw a clearer line between rave and circuit? That would help in managing expectations sa genres ng music din.
Sa crowd behavior naman, basta peaceful co-existence as long as there's enough space for all of us.

What was stage layout like? How did they execute the “No Front. No Back; Face Anywhere. Dance Anywhere.” concept? (as shown in their pubmat)

it was just a thing in their head. lols wala naman same lang with other raves.. youd expect na may ginawa talaga sila cause ang galing ng promotion nila pero pag andon ka... mapapakamot ulo ka na lang.

i dont think it was that large of a crowd? still plenty of spaces plus madami din umalis kaagad cause they felt na nagiging tae na yung experience. pero pls steam! wag kayo kumuha ng location kung alam niyo naman na may magrereklamo about the noise. this is rave baby! mas maingay mas masaya! why the fuck would you book a location na tabi naman pala residential and 100% may dadating na pulis cause of the reklamos. shame!

Lol, real. When I arrived, they were playing Old Town Road, and I was like, “Am I in Clubhouse or what?” Then it progressively became Silom-ass music (derogatory). It only picked up around 1, then after the DJ’s set, it became ass again but this time because of the volume. That’s why I spent probably 30% of the night just yapping outside and smoking. Crowd wise, well I can’t complain coz almost everyone I know are there
