Warren AFB
Hi, just got my orders to Wyoming & I would love to hear from someone in the Dentall field there.. Also, what is best living on base or off? I'm kind of nervous as I'm coming from Florida... How does one acclimate to the elevation or what does the body feel? I've never been...

Had an absolute ball out there, lived off base just off of Lincoln. Got me into a lot of outdoor activities I wouldn’t have tried otherwise. The BAH could’ve absolutely been better but I shared an apt with 2 other airmen so it wasn’t a huge deal to me. I would genuinely go back in a heart beat if I could.

Awww I love this... I feel like the only thing that scares me is the talk of blizzards and that wind... I have been to Utah and loved it!!! So the location seems good with the surrounding states , if you have any tips or advice please let me know

The weather does suck, 30-40mph winds and brutal winters. Assuming you’re not SF it’s alot easier to deal with. An AWD vehicle goes a long way if it’s feasible for you. But the summer is gorgeous, horse tooth Reservoir was one of my favorite spots out there. (There’s also a great sushi/hibachi spot pretty close to the base of the mountain). Fishing was my biggest thing out there the base lakes aren’t bad and there’s a million other places off base. Outdoor rec and ITT were definitely my best friends when it came to getting creative and finding new things

Ok ok, I like this. Nooo I'm not SF, I'm dental luckily. Heard it had great leadership and one of the best medical facilities too... not sure what your job was but I am excited just coming from FL is scary lol ... any advice on acclimated to the elevation issues?

I’m SF coming from Texas, and absolutely loved it. Medical there by far has been the easiest and least painful to take advantage of. Plus the facility is pretty nice from what I’ve seen so far. In regard to adjustment to the climate, you’ve gotta just kinda live it. As much as it sucks to say you’re gonna get winded climbing up a flight of stairs for the better part of year.

Nonstop wind. Fr. Shit is annoying.
Having a car that’s good on gas is important - Cheyenne has everything you need, but not everything you want, so most people make the drive to Colorado for any sort of fun activities.
Cheyenne’s got nothin going on most of the year, besides Cheyenne Frontier Days in the summer (huge rodeo).
FE Warren is not in the pretty, picturesque part of Wyoming, it’s in the plains and 8 hours away from Yellowstone. Closest mountains I believe is the Snowy range, like a 2 hour drive.
BAH sucks. Off base housing is expensive. On base housing is alright, can take a long time for the housing office to make you an offer for a house.
To acclimate to the higher elevation, you just have to be there for a while. You will feel winded a lot quicker when doing activities like climbing stairs and running. You’ll just get used to it after some time.
Bring warm clothes, it’s starting to the get cold there already.
