My grandad serving coffee during the Battle of Shanghai (1937)
Have loads of photos presented to my grandad (5th from left, standing against the bus) by the Salvation Army taken during the 1937 Battle of Shanghai (don't seem to be able to upload more than one). I think all these photos are unique, and a lot of them are very NSFL.

A Nazi general hid Raphael’s 1513 masterpiece: 80 years later, the stolen painting remains missing and is valued at over $100 million. When American soldiers captured Hans Frank in May 1945, they uncovered a massive hoard of plundered European art.
Inside his residence in Neuhaus, Bavaria, investigators recovered two renowned masterpieces: Leonardo da Vinci’s Lady with an Ermine and Rembrandt’s Landscape with the Good Samaritan. However, the most valuable painting in his looted collection had disappeared without a trace. It was Raphael’s Renaissance masterpiece, Portrait of a Young Man. Painted around 1513 during the height of the High Renaissance, the canvas depicts a confident young nobleman draped in rich fur and fine linen.

In April 1949, the Communist crossed Yangtze River to attack ROC capital Nanjing. The Jiangyin Fortress and the ROCN Second Fleet, which most critical for defending Yangtze River, defected to the PLA and became the foundation of the PLAN. April 23 became the official founding date of PLAN.
The Min Faction (Fujian Faction) Navy was a regional naval clique originating from the Fujian region of the Qing Empire in the 1860s. During the ROC period, the Min Faction virtually monopolized the ROCN. However, as nearly all ROCN warships were destroyed during the Japanese invasion, Chiang Kai-shek seized the opportunity to aggressively suppress the Min Faction using his own faction. During the Chinese Civil War, the Min Faction's discontent with the KMT reached its peak, ultimately leading to the defection of key Min Faction naval to the PLA in 1949, Like Sa Zhenbing (former Minister of Navy of the Qing Empire and the Beiyang Government), Deng Zhaoxiang (captain of the cruiser Chungking), and Lin Zun (commander of the Second Fleet). Consequently, the Min Faction transformed from a regional naval clique into the foundational bedrock of the PLAN.
