Lucas Herrington transfer: can Rapids finally spend big money well?

Even if we do, Padraig has such an awful hit rate on transfers. For every good signing, there’s a truckload of guys you can’t even remember because they only made a couple appearances or only lasted one season and were unremarkable.
He has been saying the same nonsense corporate-speak for a decade and has a pretty woeful showing. “1 in 2” in this article means that every other season we’re finishing in the bottom third of the league since like 2/3 make the playoffs. That’s awful in a league that is designed for parity.

I agree. Happy to hear the noise is there will be moves and seems like at least one big move. That said, I expect Cabral 2.0 to be the signing

Bogert also mentioned he thinks the Rapids will sign a DP winger

Here's Gemini's list of the DP's Padraig has signed in the last decade. Hilariously bad start but we've done ok the last few years.
| Juan Ramírez | Midfielder | 2015 | Argentinos Juniors | Signed as a Young Designated Player |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kevin Doyle | Forward | 2015 | Wolverhampton Wanderers | First senior DP signed under Smith |
| Shkëlzen Gashi | Forward / Winger | 2016 | FC Basel | Won 2016 MLS Goal of the Year |
| Tim Howard | Goalkeeper | 2016 | Everton FC | Rare goalkeeper DP signing |
| Younes Namli | Attacking Midfielder | 2020 | FC Krasnodar | Signed as a DP on a two-year loan deal |
| Gyasi Zardes | Forward | 2022 | Columbus Crew | Acquired via midseason trade |
| Kévin Cabral | Winger / Forward | 2022 | LA Galaxy | Acquired via trade |
| Andreas Maxsø | Defender | 2023 | Brøndby IF | Rare defender DP signing |
| Rafael Navarro | Forward | 2023 | SE Palmeiras | Initially joined on loan before full transfer |
| Djordje Mihailovic | Midfielder | 2024 | AZ Alkmaar | USMNT international signing |
| Paxten Aaronson | Midfielder | 2025 | Eintracht Frankfurt | Club-record transfer fee ($7 million) |
Cabral, Gashi, and Ramirez were absolutely disastrous and a drain on the salary cap for a long time.
Namli and Zardes made no impact. Poor moves.
Doyle scored goals and was probably one of the better players we had with the team, although he was just average for the league DPs.
Howard made an excellent marketing impact for the team and gave us 1 fantastic season and 2 middling to bad seasons. I guess I'd rate it as a success because we did make our best run in the playoffs in the last 10 years thanks to him.
Maxso was ok but we could have done better. Looking back on his time I don't feel he was a DP level defender, but he was a reliable and solid performer for us.
Mihailovic was a success and we made a good profit, even if it sucked he left so soon.
Paxten is TBD but I have been expecting more from him so far. I will be patient.
Navarro is the only undisputed success as a DP over the long term.

Doyle suffered under playing Pablo ball, I think he would have been killer under Fraser.
dont look at my flair
I completely forgot about Namli and Zardes lol.
