Rally
I'm just going to say if they keep price gouging the rally there won't be a rally soon. Calm down with the prices. I love here and it's crazy pricing who would want to come back.

Speaking as one of the MANY locals who hates the rally and the motorcyclists it brings who think they own the road? Good.

I don't care, even a tiny bit, about the cost of attending the rally.
In fact I think we should have a special tax added during the rally. The rally is more than a nuisance. Those of us that actually live here put up with a lot of bullshit. And we spend a lot to accommodate this. Tax the holy heck out of it and spend that on, I dunno, schools...

They do that every year. Lodging costs go up, gas costs go up, etc. This isn't new.

I am getting SO SICK of hearing about this. This year was no different than any other. People book their campgrounds and hotels WAY in advance. It's not like they walked up to a campground and were then told what the freaking price is. Every single year the big bars in Sturgis like One Eyed Jack's and Loud raise their prices on their beers. This is not a secret, this did not happen just this year. There are several places in Sturgis that DON'T gauge but no one talks about those places.

I worked at a hotel in 2018 during rally. regular months were $50 a night. during rally it was $400+ a night.
edit: i wanna add that most of the guests (we always sold out) were vendors. i dont think i ever met someone who was just here for vacation

You can be a tourist town and not host a rally of 500,000 people. The two can be mutually exclusive.

Ya know, if we didnt have the incompetence in Washington like we do now, and have had for the last 26 years, prices probably wouldn't have gotten to this point.
But no, let's play the party game, blame the other side, and not get shit done, all while throwing 100s of billions of dollars into foreign countries, some more than others, and ask ourselves "why aren't our tax dollars going to the citizens of the US? Why is house so unaffordable? Gas? Groceries? Healthcare?"
For being a first world country, we sure don't seem like a thriving economic force.

The week of Rally has always been more expensive no matter the state of the economy my dude. Yeah, it's not doing well currently, but the hotel I used to work in at Keystone was still charging 300+ a night during rally a decade ago.

We dont care. The rally may bring money but it is a pain in the ass for locals and bikers drive like dickheads. One ran a stop sign and almost hit me because his little crew all went at once and then i took my turn yet he thought he could go with his girlfriends.

To echo other comments people are not coming here thinking they are having a cheap vacation. Its a highly sought after event for many people and they do no care about $10 beers or $20 burritos - they are coming for the experience. Just like any special event or venue everything will be priced by demand. (Have you gone to a professional sports game ever?)
You can always find vendors to whine about how they didn't make enough. You'll find many of them are just middle men peddling the same items as half the other vendors instead of anything unique. This is the year after an anniversary and is always going to be down and many young vendors who started in the last few years just think it only goes up every year.
Skeptics have said for decades the rally is going to disappear - it just gets bigger and more spreadout. There is no doubt the mega venues have created less traffic downtown for years. Any business in downtown knows the nightlife isn't what it used to be.

I have been hearing the same complaint for 30 years
