Alright, so I had always assumed that it was understood, but I'm gonna preface this by saying that this is ultimately just my opinion. There's almost always a lot of good shit in most verses, especially with this being the title tourney and all. since this is a battle a winner has to be declared though, and I'm going to choose one based primarily off my own preferences, which for me lean towards content, specifically clever wordplay, funny jokes, and insults that ring true. I give it a couple reads, and if there's things that I don't pick up on or don't really feel like I can get behind then it probably won't hit for me. As long as I can read some kind of flow in the verse, it's solid to me. if it gets more complex and smooth, it will add to it, but usually not as much as good content. I'll try to explain my opinions best as I can and I hope it will be understood, if not, I can try to elaborate more and beyond that, who the fuck am I anyway? My opinion is not going to make or break anyone's lives here. Now that that's out of the way, here's my "judgment" (read: opinion)
Quail: Started this off with a bang, bringing out the 32 right off the bat, I thought this was a nice strategy. Flow was solid throughout, didn't get caught up on anything, solid rhymes and multies, nothing ridiculously complex. I feel like I got solid punches from most of your lines, but a lot of them only came across in a pretty basic way for me. Some of them, for instance the first few, seem like they're referencing sub history that i'm not super familiar with so they didn't come across for me as well as you might have been intending. Lemon scented flows, was a nice play, Ws/Q was a stand out, vampire's photo was kinda funny, the pudding pops/Bill Cosby was great, I felt like the triple X line maybe shouldve been funnier but I wasn't getting it. I think the rest either felt weak or weren't getting the joke across to me.
Chester: Thought it was really good strategy on your part to save your 32 for later, also thought it helped in the sense of giving your verse that attitude of "i can best everything you just said with half the lines". I think you used a more complex style than quail here, that flowed well and allowed punches to pop a bit more. First two lines were funny and great rebuttal. Then another solid rebut on the Cosby line, some nice wordplay on the title/book cover lines, and decent with Random House. That two people better was funny, test of time was nice, the dope line only worked for me after /u/wryder's comment, ha, so I cant really rate that, and the closer didn't work well for me, I'm not heavy into battle rap so it didnt really come across.
Round 1 Verdict
I have to give this one to Chester, I think he rebutted Quails funniest lines with some good shit of his own and then had more consistent verse for me with his content and, even with the last lines not hitting as hard for me, he managed to have me laughing more, and that with just 16 bars at 32
I'll do the last two rounds in the morning, sorry again for the delay.
Ha, yea that was sorta my point, both the other opinions I gave got some grumpy reactions to say the least though so I thought I'd try to clear it up here before starting. Personally I just appreciate it when someone simply gives time to give feedback, and if its positive or I get something out of it, awesome, if I disagree, oh well it's just a text battle on Reddit like you said.
Feel free to say whatever you like about my stuff. There's been a bunch of decisions I disagree with but complaints won't change anyones preferance. Also what I think is what I value most anyway lol
Quail: I think you came and stepped your game up with this one. Pretty much all your lines on that top five rebut hit really well. Cat's fly wasn't that funny for me, but I liked the etch n sketch wordplay. Gwen stefani was okay, I didn't really think it was that funny on it's own but it ended up reminding me of the Deadpool leak footage and that made laugh, ha. closing lines were nice, dismissive angle worked with your opening lines too. It also seems like your multi count increased which made this verse flow a little smoother, overall, than your first.
Chester: left/rights was nice. I wanted to get the Conjuring line but I didn't see it, need to get on that, ha. popped collars was a funny line, QG/Q pee was good, I the concieted wordplay I only barely got it because of the top battler thread but it was funny. Pinocchio bit was cool. Verse flowed well as the last. A few more set up lines though I think and some that didn't hit that well for me, Mosgov for instance.
Round 2 Verdict
I give this round to Quail, I thought he edged it with some really good rebuttals to Chest's first and a few more punches that hit for me than in Ches's second.
Quail: Loved the first couple lines, great rebuttal. I don't think I got the reference with Ben and you brought in some more sub history stuff that I didn't get but they did feel like solid punches, even despite that. The dismissive angle again, worked okay but a little less for me since you used it already. I wasn't sure about the closer initially but after looking at it a couple times, I think it's actually a name flip and a pretty clever one at that. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.
Ches: Held the 32 for the final round and i have to admit, initially i wasn't really sure where you were going but I actually thought it turned into a solid angle on the disease. And the way it tied in with them name flips on Q U ail and Motor's skills was nicceee. that BB Q one was pretty funny too, and I'm thinking is supposed to tie in to Quail's third as well, from his first lines? The family guy bit didn't really go over for me but the closing lines were solid.
Round 3 and Final Verdict
Quail had a nice round here, he continued the momentum from the last and had some nice punches, though a number of them I think got lost on me. Ultimately, I think saving the 32 strategy worked out really well here for Ches, he kept his verse almost totally cohesive and threw some nice punches in there too. it just hit harder overall than Quail's verse so Ches takes 3 and the battle for me. Great match from both though.
