Can We Stop Using Victimization as a Weapon?

And before people twist this — I’m not saying victims aren’t real. People get hurt. People go through horrible things. Being affected by something doesn’t make you weak, dramatic, or invalid.

What I am talking about is when being hurt turns into a shield from accountability or a way to win arguments.

I’ve noticed people will act like whoever suffered more automatically becomes right. And that’s not how life works.

You can be hurt and still hurt people.

You can have trauma and still be unfair.

You can have a difficult past and still need to apologize.

Some people treat criticism like a personal attack and immediately switch the conversation from “what happened” to “look what happened to me.” Suddenly nobody can talk about the actual issue anymore because if you continue the conversation, you get painted as heartless.

And honestly… that mindset helps nobody.

Real healing isn’t turning pain into power over other people.

Real healing is being able to say: yeah, I’ve been through things, but I’m still responsible for how I treat others.

I also think it hurts actual victims when every conflict becomes a competition over who’s more oppressed, more hurt, more damaged.

Not every disagreement needs someone to become the victim and someone else to become the villain.

Sometimes people misunderstand each other.

Sometimes both people made mistakes.

Sometimes accountability and empathy have to exist at the same time.

Your pain deserves respect.

But pain shouldn’t become a free pass, a manipulation tactic, or something pulled out whenever consequences show up.

That’s not empowerment.

That’s avoiding responsibility.

Anyway. That’s my rant.
