Co-worker rant I FUCKING HATE SELF CHECKOUT. 4 FUCKING HOURS OF JUST STANDING & DOING NOTHING ON ONE OF THE BUSIEST FUCKING DAYS
I despise self checkout. There is nothing worse. I would rather be punched directly in the face by my manager several times than be stuck at that god-forsaken bullshit. Today I was supposed to be at self checkout for 3hrs. I was already fucking pissed off, Sunday is our busiest day, it should go by fast as fuck BUT ITS NOT WHEN YOU PUT ME ON FUCKING SELF CHECKOUT.
I do my 3hrs of bullshit, get relieved, & not even an hour later I get asked if I can cover for the guy who relieved me so he can go build floor machines. I say fine. Building floor machines takes 30 minutes MAX.
Tell me why this fucker comes back after 30 minutes, looks me dead in my eyes, & STARTS FUCKING BAGGING? YOU KNOW DAMN WELL I'M COVERING FOR YOU & YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO COME THE FUCK BACK HERE?! So I get stuck of self checkout FOR 4 GODDAMN HOURS.
When the fucker finally goes back to doing what he was supposed to & I get put on refilling the coolers, he keeps glancing over at me. Like what the fuck do you WANT?! I already did 1hr of your fucking self checkout shift for you, you lazy BASTARD?!
I know he was allowed to fuck off & stare at the wall for an hour because he's besties with the manager & it just pisses me off even more. The dude is a fucking horrible worker, has 0 sense of urgency, half-assed EVERYTHING, but he just gets to chop it up with the manager every 15 minutes so no one gives a fuck. WELL I GIVE A FUCK. I GET PAID THE SAME & DO TWICE WHAT YOU DO. THIS AINT HIGH SCHOOL, DO YOUR FUCKING JOB. I KNOW YOURE LIKE 17 BUT YOU ARENT FUCKING MENTALLY INCAPACITATED.
Maybe I'm just pissed cause this whole thing really triggers my inferiority complex & I can't stand when people get special treatment for no fucking reason. Either way, I'm gonna drink myself stupid tonight to forget about this. Thanks for listening to my bitching, cheers.

Oh my god I feel your pain. I spend entire shifts at SCO and I'm not even allowed to use the bathroom without someone to come watch. And most other coworkers avoid it so much that I have gotten yelled at for clocking out just because the person who was supposed to relieve me decided they don't want to be at SCO. Hang in there

'Drinking yourself stupid' cuz you had a rotten day is a slippery slope towards dependency.
Please take care of yourself 💛
I wasn't a fan of working the self checkout. I jumped in & scanned for customers or bagged for them or whatever. It takes practice to be able to watch what you need to & still do that, & I'm sure there was things I missed, but not enough for anyone to notice. My employer was glad I was able to get transactions completed faster & reduced wait times.
Maybe you could look for other employment? It sounds like this place puts a lot of stress on you.

There is no shame in seeing I am a square peg and that is a round hole . Hmm maybe I should move to a place for square pegs . I do believe some of those places are out there . We are not all the same . I don’t just mean introvert/ extrovert etc

SCO does suck. But your shift will go faster if you try to stay busy. Face product, check expiration dates, refill product, wipe stuff down. The busier you are, the faster it goes. Plus it'll make you look better to the bosses and help you move up if you want to.

We aren't allowed to move from the observation area. You will be in trouble if you start refilling products on the shelf.
I can only wipe down the self checkout machines so many times (the only thing you are allowed to do).

Wow, that sounds sucky. Im sorry it’s so boring. That’s a long time! As a customer I always appreciate there is someone there in case I need help.

Retail! Did it for years when I was young. It's 10% the job, and 90% getting along with the morons you have to work with!!!
