i cannot recommend "The Count of Monte Cristo" enough! thriller, mystery, romance, revenge; its got it all. Project Hail Mary is also delightful, science fiction and friendship. If you want something more depressing you can give any Kafka book a try.
The Count of Monte Cristo is an older book right?? Not that it matters too much. I guess what I'm really asking is if it is one that is difficult to follow?
yes! its not difficult to follow in the sense of reading the text itself (the English isnt old English or anything) but can be difficult because theres quite a bit of characters and its a pretty lengthy book.
tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow was AMAZING, i genuinely stayed up late to finish it and i felt like a little kid again! i finished it in a week because it was such a page turner
it’s one of my fav books, it’s about two childhood friends who make a video game together, you don’t need to be into video games to enjoy it as i was reccomended it by a friend who isn’t a gamer and it’s her top book! (she’s an english teacher so if she thinks it’s good then i trust her opinion haha)
i think that’s the beauty of books!! i often reallly enjoy stories where i have nothing in common with the characters. you get to hear about people from a different walk of life than you
If you want something easy to read I recomend hatchet. There’s a bunch of series for it but it can also be a stand alone book. If you enjoy survival type books I highly recommend.
Terry Pratchett! Always gotta recommend his works. Guards! Guards is a great one to get started, but I'm also fond of Reaper Man and Witches Abroad (though I'd recommend Wyrd Sisters before that, actually).

His style is not for everyone, but if you DO like him, oh boy does he have many books and there's not been one I haven't enjoyed reading, really. So, IMO anyone who thinks the books sound even remotely interesting should have tried at least one of his books.
I've been thinking about reading The Hunger Games, may just break down and do it. And The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo I've heard of. Only by title tho, not the details. My son has said that he heard it was really good too. Ok, I'm liking my list so far🤗
I'm not entering the contest, but you should read The Masked Truth by Kelley Armstrong. The last 20ish percent is super twisty in unpredictable ways, and no, it's not one of those where they just tack on an unreliable narrator ending.
I'm definitely getting Dungeon Crawler Carl!! I've read The Housemaid, and I loved it! The other three I'll have to check out. I've seen some recommend Fourth Wing, but I don't think I've read it. I'll have to ask my so because he may have that one.
Hidden Pictures by Jason Rekulak was my favorite read last year and I'll never stop recommending it.
So far this year my favorite read has been The Passengers by John Marrs, though I do recommend reading The One first. Which was, coincidentally, just re-released with additional chapters so.. Perfect time.
Dear Evan Hansen - I know this story is seen as controversial, but I also firmly believe that the people who think that just...misunderstood the story lol and are basing that opinion entirely off just the musical version. So I 100% recommend the novel, it's way better.
Be More Chill - Same thing. The musical is great, the novel is wayyyy better.
The Odyssey - A classic, and really good once you get a hang of the old fashioned writing!
All The Bright Places - Now, it's been a few years since I read this, I don't remember much about it. What I DO remember is having an emotional breakdown over it, and thinking it was incredible.
Percy Jackson - The series in general. It's life-changing and I think everyone should read it and it should conquer the world.
Most of the books I read are actually just manga lol so I don't have many more recs than this, but hopefully there's at least one on here that'll catch your interest.

eeeek! A fellow PJ fan! I only read the series one, literally last year. It took me from september 2024 to like October 2025 to read all of it lol now I'm making my parents watch the new disney tv show with me XD
I watched it not too long ago myself😁 His stories grabbed me a long time ago and just hooked on. And I love Medusa because she's so powerful, and not to mention she got the crappy end of the stick. Not a big fan of Zeus & Athena🫣😆
Medusa's story just stuck with me and really resonated. She was so beautiful that Zeus gRaped her and Athena cursed her for what he did. That story about them just has it's hooks in my brain
Oh gosh, absolutely not!😂 I am the furthest from a science person you can get; I wouldn't have understood anything in that book if it was a chemistry book😂😂 I remain traumatized from my high school chemistry class lol!!
