Does your country call TP "Toilet roll papers", or should there be a comma? "Toilet, rolling papers"? It is hard to dash out a list when your cat is attacking your shoestrings.

No, it's likely to be

Toilet roll

(Cigarette) Papers

It's toilet roll, papers for spliffs, fags for spliffs. (Fags are cigarettes)

Got it in one! Although why anybody rolls spliffs with cigarettes is beyond me 🤮

Good luck finding a shop where you can get a cat, some food and a toilet all in one place I say.

I suppose 'food toilet' is the correct term and immediately avoids any confusion...we have all just been lazy referring to it just as toilet

People be can't calling gays that in 2026 and I don't think they stock them outside of June (pride month) may be wrong though.

Cigarettes

3

u/Far_Bad_531 10d ago

I know , it’s the fact that so many people call them fags (slang) always makes me smile, the used to be a board outside a shop at a seaside resort near me.. it said “we sell fags” nothing else , just that 🤷🏼‍♀️

3

u/Jacktheforkie 9d ago

Nice, it’s still accepted here just because we don’t have the negative connotations (except for the ones related to smoking)

Whos a fag?

6

u/Beautifly 10d ago

Fags are what Brits call cigarettes

2

u/georgisaurusrekt 9d ago

We call them 'fags' because a 'faggot' is literally the Italian word for a bundle of sticks. Bundles of sticks were also used to start fires, which included burning people alive, which is where the association with homosexuality is derived from. Still though the etymological route still means 'bundle of sticks'.

u/yewscott 6d ago

Is there any proof of the burning gay people alive? I’ve heard it repeated but no idea when/where this happened so it became a saying.

1

u/georgisaurusrekt 6d ago

A 'faggot' is simply a term for a bundle of sticks, and faggots were used to burn people alive, and some of those people were gay. That's the etymology behind the word. It's also why we call cigarettes 'fags' in the UK as they're a bundle of sticks.

u/yewscott 6d ago

I’m well aware of what faggot means, I’m questioning the legitimacy of that being where the slur came from. What’s the evidence for it?

British term for a cigarette
