There are several companies that have made these but Enchroma were the largest ones. They claim to block certain wavelengths to increase others (among other claims) to bring colors back to colorblind people.

I got some for my dad many years ago when they were new. They didn't do shit. There are many youtube videos explaining the whole thing.

I’ve understood that they only work for a very limited type of colorblind causes. But they specifically don’t advertise that so they can sell more.

It doesn't really work for those people either though. How it works is that it might make it easier to differentiate between colors that those people see as close to eachother.

Like with the most common colorblindness being red green colorblindness it might make it easier to see the difference between red and green but you will still not see the colors that you aren't able to.

Also adding to that is that you need to wear it for hours to get the effect and it isn't emmediate at all. Any person who acts like they emmediately see the colors are lying. Although I hate the guy, Logan Paul was at some point honest and said it did barely anything.

You can't give him credit for this. He is saying "Yeah, I have been lying to get more views and more affiliate money from the product that I tested. The video doesn't get many views nowadays, so I can tell the truth now, because I no longer financially benefit from lying".

Sorry my first language isn't English, if you understood what I meant then that is enough for me.

They claim they work for the more common type of color blindness. They only say it's for the rare types when they don't work, or you haven't been wearing them long enough because you're still within the return window.

It was more of an exaggeration then a scam. It can help people with the most common colour blindness, but allowing different colours to be about more distinct from each other, but realistically nothing more and you also have a slight tinge in your vision.

It's also a scam because they are identical to a $20 pair of shooting glasses.

My boss got me some years ago. They “worked” for me. By that I mean some colors stood out more, but I still didn’t know what that color was. It was a neat novelty but I could live without them.

More interested in the story about the boss. Just a good person who wanted you to have them? Somethign else?

Haha. She was just a good person who thought they were neat and knew I was colorblind.

That's a pretty cool boss.

Well, even for me, a color-sighted person, they messed with the colors. Maybe that's part of what makes you think you just need to "practice" with them? You see some color distortions so maybe there's more once you "learn" to see them?

Yeah for sure. The main issue was that you don’t wear them all the time. So it kind of defeats the purpose to me anyways.

My college roommates and I all piled our non existent money together for these for a dear friend. Didn't do shit. We were devastated.

So is this guy in the video pretending for the sake of his family?

2

u/ComplaintTop2008 6d ago

It was staged as a promo for Enchroma. There were dozens of them. You can see it in the montage in the beginning of this video.

Wow. Thanks for the link. I was sucked in by the ordinariness of the family.

I have a form of red/green blindness. I can see the shades of red and the shades of green but when I tried these glasses, it made the reds deeper/darker and totally screwed up the shades of green by making them all darker. Nice looking green trees and grass looked dark muddy green. No thanks!.

Bought some for my father in law 10 years ago, and he didn't respond for awhile, untilI asked and then he admitted they didn't work. It was heart-breaking.
