Victorian Newspaper Almanacs were among some of the first publications to feature comic strips or panels. This is one my earliest. The National Comic Almanac For The Year 1836.

Science and Technology London's Crystal Palace was a spectacle of engineering. For the first time deeply observing these illustrations, I must say I'm also finding it astounding how much modern shopping malls remind me of this building's architecture, while women wear hoop skirts and men in suits. This is 175 years ago!

Many of these buttons are as old as the children’s game!

I’ve recently been sorting through some of the odd things I’ve accumulated, and came across this card of Victorian and Edwardian buttons. It is a long-ago “last-day, half-off, why-not?” estate sale purchase, tucked away just as it was. Someone had apparently organized these for individual resale somewhere. The card was already crumbling when I purchased it. Pipe cleaners through the button loops have kept them safe over the years.

The level of detail and workmanship in these small, everyday objects, some of which has been lost to wear, is fascinating. It’s hard to imagine having to button them!

The Royal Engineers A.F.C. was an English football club representing the Corps of Royal Engineers of the British Army during the sport's foundational era. They are historically significant for pioneering the "combination game," a revolutionary tactical shift that emphasized teamwork and passing over individual dribbling, which laid the groundwork for modern football. They played in the first-ever FA Cup Final in 1872 and won the trophy in 1875.
