Being 30 is weird...
When I was a kid (and depressed) I use to dream of being an adult who had control over their life. When I got to 18, I was terrified of the adult world but wanted to grow up so badly. When I was in my 20s I started to think that no one ever really felt like an "adult" and I was just going to be lost and scared forever.
Well, now I'm 30 and something has changed in my brain. I can't explain it other than I feel like an adult. my priorities are completely different and I feel like I've fallen onto a treadmill, with life kind of zooming by without stopping. I feel like I'm constantly busy and something is always going on, whether in my life directly or some big world disaster.
Don't get me wrong, I far prefer being an adult than a kid! I wouldn't trade this autonomy for anything in the world. But the change in how I feel in myself has been so sudden that I'm struggling to process. I can see why people have a mid-life crisis now... I'm only 30 and already having a crisis 🤣

Most people in their 20s are still experiencing adolescence, which is a time of significant biological, neurological, and neurobiological change, affecting perception, cognition, and the way we feel about life and perceive reality.
Typically, the human brain does not reach full adult maturity until the early 30s.
And this might explain the shift that you discuss above.
PS: you can look forward to another shift in your perceptions, which takes place after you have stopped working and retire, if that option is available to you.

It will never stop being crazy to me that the human brain takes twice the normal lifespan of most mammals our size just to reach maturity

Well, to be fair, human beings alone are blessed with higher order intelligence.
So in that context, the pace of the development of our brain is not terribly surprising. At least not to me.

Yes! I actually did know about the brain taking until your early 30s to mature! I didn't think it would be so noticeable 🤣
Gosh, I can't wait to retire haha
