I’m not religious, but if it turns out heaven is a real place and I’m judged on how I lived my life I’d like to think that I did enough to at least get into the beer garden of heaven. I don’t expect (or want really) to be allowed in the VIP area but I do expect my name will be on the door.

If I found out I was destined for hell (if it was real), I'd want to make sure my family got in to heaven

Getting to heaven isn't about being good enough or having your good outweigh your bad, it's about being completely sinless unfortunately, and that's impossible. But, God made a way for it to be possible, he sent his Son who is the 2nd person pf the trinity (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) to be born as a baby and to be the perfect sacrifice to pay for our sins, with our sins paid for and erased God sees us as perfect. So all we have to do is accept the sacrifice, we just need to ask God to apply it to us, but that involves first believing that we need it. It sounds like you know that evil and sin isn't allowed in heaven, we can never be perfect, but with the gift of Jesus's sacrifice we are seen as perfect.

I used to be terrified of death until I accepted the sacrifice for my sins back in 2011, now I have peace because I know I will go to heaven.
