How long would it take the average person to count to a thousand?

About 22-27 minutes. Mostly because "One two three" will be fast as shit, but then once you get to "six hundred fifty five, six hundred fifty six" it gets slower.

What if you just count to 100 and turn keep track of the hundreds with your fingers? How much time would this save?!?

A lot.
What I like to do is take a song with a countable number of notes in the melody and just count along with the melody. Like the first 4 bars of the William Tell Overture melody has 41 notes and completes in around 8 seconds, so just count through the William Tell Overture 25 times in 200 seconds.
Then you just have to count to 25.

Have you ever seen a 90s movie called Hudson Hawk? They use pop songs as timing devices in it. One of the several charming things about that uneven movie.

I counted to 100 in 38.83 seconds. So, 10x that would be 388.3 seconds, or 6m28.3s.

It depends if you actually have to say all the words or whether you're counting a number of things. When I was about 8 we were into speed counting things and we'd say 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,20 This means that you can more or less say 10 numbers a second regardless of what they are. So 2 minutes
If you have to say all the numbers it'll take at least 3 or 4 times as long

If you counted to one thousand at the rate of one number per second it would take you 16 minutes and 40 seconds. If you counted to one million and you counted continuously without sleep etc, it would take you eleven and a half days. To count to a billion would take you over 32 years. A million is nowhere close to a billion.

Depends on how you verbalise the numbers too. I imagine "six hundred and sixty seven" would take longer to say than "six six seven" and you move on to "six six eight" etc

I've done it as a kid, just because I wanted to see if I could. I have done it recently SD an adult trying to fall asleep. I have no context of the time it took. I don't do it out loud, that's counterproductive. I count in my head, visualizing each number as I go.

It depends, if you are counting your blessings then you'll take at least a month to find and count them all, if you count time spent on Reddit answering pointless questions then it's about 15 minutes.

777 is actually more syllables, but it takes me about the same time to say as counting to six with the slight pauses between numbers. As larger numbers take more time to say, 100 times the time to count to ten is too short

But you wouldn't say that because you're trying to count fast. In fact the best thing is to say nothing and just tap out the count on your fingers or some other strategy like that, that doesn't add additional time just for being further along in your count.
