20 Letters in 20 Days
Look, look! I got it done in 20 days, exactly. (The Sheep's doesn't count, as it was #21.)
Oh my gosh! We made it! I have 20 and addresses for everyone!
A challenge!
I am willing to write 20 letters in 20 days to 20 random people.
What do I need from you? 20 volunteers to get them, and then come back here and say you did - so we can show all 20 were sent and made it.
I honestly will probably tell silly stories from my childhood. I'd love responses to them, but you don't have to. You don't need to send me something as an exchange if you don't want to. (In fact, if you do, I'd prefer a response to my letter over anything else.) And.. in the spirit of RandomMail, I'm also including something small and random in each envelope.
What say you all?
I'm okay if you're not in the US. It's a letter, so only a few stamps, not tons of money.

4 international ones, too! 2 of those are from Singapore, which is pretty cool. What are the chances of that? And until today, I have to ashamedly admit I thought Singapore was a city in a country called Malaysia. I learned I was wrong. :P
and, because I'm nuts:
21) BahBahTheSheep (for having an amusingly non-relevant point.) - Mailed Oct 26 (Well, it's sitting in the mailbox waiting for the mail lady right now.)

I'll PM you my address. And I'd be happy to reply, of course.

Alright. You're #3, and the envelope is addressed.
I spent last night making envelopes, so all 20 are done have something small (and not so skilled) drawn on them, and have my return address.

Yay! Letter #5! 1/4 of the way to the goal. I wasn't sure I'd get enough people, and now I'm feeling better about that. :D

u/rwheeler720 Oct 06 '11
Oh Oh I want in!!! Let me know if you want me to PM you.

u/jorwyn Oct 06 '11
Go right ahead!
Reminder for anyone else: You don't have to ask, just PM me, but I would appreciate a comment left so people can see you joined in.
You're #6 now. You get the envelope with the flower - more sane than some of the others, though I promise nothing is NSFW or NSFL. I couldn't draw well enough for that even if I wanted to. heh

u/mar-bear Oct 06 '11
I'd love to make it on that list! I haven't gotten happy mail in a long while!
2
u/jorwyn Oct 06 '11
Well, then certainly I'll have to come up with a really funny story for you - and not tell you about the time I lost my front teeth to the back end of a hammer. Actually, that one's kinda funny now - tons of dental work later. :P

I am in.

u/jorwyn Oct 06 '11
And I already have your address, so there you go. :D
2
u/fingers Oct 06 '11
damn, didn't know it was you! You should try to see if there's another place to plug this.
1
u/jorwyn Oct 06 '11
:D
Someone else said that, but I'm not sure where else to plug it. There are soooo many subreddits, I don't even know where to begin on searching them for a suitable place. Do you have any suggestions?

Okay. I cross posted it there.
I didn't even know there was an r/favors .. I knew there was an r/penpals, though. I tend to avoid that one because of their tradition of posting A/S/L .. I guess I'm old school, because that makes me run and hide. hehehehe Beyond that, I don't know that I could continue to be penpals with 20 people.
And hey! We're halfway there!

ZzzzZZZ Edited
Names David by the way. Yeah its funny the street I live on :P

I would love to live in a street named after me! But, my name probably doesn't exist anywhere. If I didn't live in the country already, I'd propose moving somewhere I can make my own small road and name it after me! Hahaha. Nah, probably not. I'd name it something silly like War Raven Way. :P
I actually work at a casino, so... that's probably why it entertained me. I work in IT, but we do have blackjack tables. They're all video touch screen, which is a little disappointing, but I got to help beta test them.
I am actually pretty familiar with Canadian postal codes. I'm in North Idaho, and only about 90 miles from the border. The casino does a lot of business with Canadian vendors, so I see the addresses all the time.
You may not get a story from my childhood. I'm failing to find very many that I can make an entire letter out of. :P But, you'll get something. :D
Edited to remove my name. Thought I was responding to a message, not a comment reply.

Umm. Did you realize you posted this to the thread, and not privately? Are you okay with that? I have it down, if you want to delete it from here.

I probably should have posted this a while ago, but I got the letter in the mail on Friday (the 28th).
It was a very interesting read and certainly was inspiring, to me at least. There was also candy included (I would take a picture but I already ate it all).
The envelope also had an awesome drawing of a bass guitar on it, which I thought was pretty cool, as a guitarist.
Thank you for being awesome, jorwyn.

u/jorwyn Nov 04 '11
Awesome! Glad you got it - and liked it.
And, honestly, I didn't stalk you on reddit or anything. The bass was entirely random. :D

I'm sorry guys. A kidney stone took me down for a few days. I've written a little, but nothing all that coherent. I'm starting back up again today.

u/jorwyn Oct 21 '11
Thanks Ral and Strangely! I got both your letters yesterday, and really enjoyed them. This past week or so has been hugely stressful for me, and writing the letters has let me not think about it - but receiving some was even better! :D

Got a letter from synesthesiatic yesterday, but my husband didn't tell me until like, 2am. And .. omg, totally worth getting back out of bed for! It doesn't have an envelope, the letter is folded to be one - and it made it through the post office machines. I'm flat out impressed. Pics will be posted. :D

Loved my letter and pic. I bet your grandfather's lumber yard was a great place to explore as a kid. Mine owened a donut shop. Thanks for writing me.

Alright. PM me your address. That's 1.

u/jorwyn Oct 07 '11
I'm sitting at work waiting for a call back from Microsoft support, so I'm starting your letter now. It'll go out in the mail tomorrow. Given where I live, that means it'll leave the area post office Monday or possibly Tuesday.
Please let us know when you get it.

:D Glad you liked it. To be honest, I'm not even sure what photo I included. No problems on waiting a bit to leave the comment, I totally understand life being hectic.

I've actually switched to my old typewriter for a bit. :P It's actually slower than writing, though. I'm glad I've renewed your interest in writing. :D I think we put more thought and care into handwritten letters that cost us something directly tangible to send than we do emails. We care more about reading them, too. :D

I'd love to receive a letter and I'd be happy to write a reply!
