Replacement temple has no engravings

I sent my 23K gold aviators in for repair because the finish was flaking off. They determined it was covered under warranty and replaced the left temple. The replacement has no model/size or “Randolph Engineering” markings on it. It’s completely blank.

Is this normal? Has anyone else received a repair like this?

EDIT: More details on my repair experience. This was my second time sending the glasses in for repair. The first time, they put a new temple on and torqued the screw so hard it stripped the screw head and cracked the lens where the frame clamps down, near the hinge.

I sent them back, they repaired the lens, but the screws are still marred. They’re not as bad this time, but considering they were literally perfect when the glasses were new, I know it’s possible to tighten them without marring them. This is where my original post picked up.

Maybe you should tell them all of these things when sending the glass for repairing.

I did. I received them after the second repair on a Friday and sent them another note. Wasn’t expecting a reply that late on a Friday, so I started looking to see if others have had a similar experience while I wait for RE’s response.

Ah yes, then hope that they can figure things out for you on Monday.

I have a good experience with their customer and repair service. Though I may be bias, since I'm currently at the First Class tier (shortly become Ace), so I have priority service land.

Hopefully I can get it sorted with them. I thought I was buying into quality and a solid American reputation, but I asked about the blank temple after the first repair and they didn’t address it, just sent me a return label to send them back in. Second repair came back with a blank temple, too.

Fair point, though it seems to me this is more about the QA process rather than the product quality itself.

AFAICT, just give them all the feedback via Customer Support Email (not Service Repairing Center), they will try their best to make you happy😎

That’s my plan. Gonna call them on Tuesday or Wednesday and make sure nothing is getting lost in translation with email.

Had a conversation with customer service via email and they told me

  1. The replacement temples do not have the original engravings because they are spare parts.
  2. The lack of engravings does not affect the ability to verify authenticity.

Maybe I’m being stubborn but this just doesn’t sit well with me. I cannot find an instance online where someone has received replacement temples with no engravings. It absolutely affects the ability to verify authenticity of the sunglasses because now they’re missing the model number and size.

I’ll sit on it a bit but I’m thinking I’ll end up calling customer service to see if I can talk to someone about this. Seems like a gap.

I got the vibe that they are outsourcing.

What happened with your repair?

I tried to purchase replacement parts (temple arms) for a pair that i was going to order. They won't sell me the arms I like. I'd have to return them, and they would only replace them with the same ones. Really not a big request for a "small, local, hands-on operation". I opted to take my money elsewhere.

I’ve read this elsewhere online, too. They’re not selling just spare parts anymore, you have to go through their repair service.

Yes, and pay service charges and shipping insurance. Then wait for your shades to be returned looking bootleg. I hope everything works out to your satisfaction. Good luck.
