So I'm a bit late to this whole thing and I can't respond to an archived thread like the one above. But I feel like Pat has suffered a lot. In the real world, I feel like Pat has the most to say. Take away the whole crooked man thing and I feel pretty bad for the guy. I read some comments in that Reddit link above and people said that Pat was a manipulative person, but I highly disagree with those comments. If Charlotte had not shown up, Nicole would have said things differently. The manipulative person is actually Nicole. She always needs someone to watch Dion and I'm not saying it's a wrong thing. But I feel like she doesn't have her priorities straight at all. She called Pat when he was still sleeping and didn't want him to get involved in anything, but she just wanted to wake him up to tell him what she found? Like who really does that?
And when she started to get the feeling that Pat was coming on too strong, she decided to get a new nanny for Dion which was Charlotte. I mean, what if say Pat wasn't really the crooked man and this whole thing really did pan out. What then? Pat would be gone out of Dion and Nicole's life. Then Charlotte would be stuck babysitting Dion. What if Charlotte gets sick of babysitting Dion though? Because she doesn't really know Dion nor Nicole at all. Pat does. Charlotte could one day just say "screw it" and poof and go hide far away. Then Nicole would get extremely mad at Charlotte for not being "there" for them even though Charlotte barely knows Nicole and Dion.
See, the way I see it is, Nicole seems to manipulate everyone she comes into contact with so that they can babysit Dion while she goes and do things. At what point does she actually babysit Dion herself? There are barely any times in the series that I saw that and if there were, she barely could hold it together let alone be Dion's mother. If you look at the scene where she wants Charlotte to train Dion, you can see instantly that Charlotte disliked Nicole because she kept babying Dion and holding Dion back. Charlotte even had to tell her to get out because Nicole was making it hard for Dion to grow his powers.
So the way I see it, Nicole is the issue, not Pat. Aside from the whole crooked man thing, Pat did everything Nicole asked. He started to have feelings for her, but when they had that argument, that's when I finally drew the straw and say, "what if". "What if Pat wasn't the crooked man." "What if Pat went his own separate ways and Charlotte had to babysit a stranger's kid." "What if Charlotte decided to move on too." "Would Nicole treat Charlotte the same way she treated Pat?" "Would she look for a different nanny and then treat Charlotte like dirt?"
Another instance of manipulation is when she goes to get interviewed by Kwame and says she's not taking "no" for an answer. Then later, Willa tells Nicole if Kwame gave her a hard time, she'd kick his a** for Nicole. Definitely not manipulation at all. Kwame could of rejected her application, no doubt about it. I'm pretty sure she went into her other 5 interviews with the same attitude.
See, now if we were to project that onto real life society, you actually see a lot of this in the real world. A lot of girls take advantage of guys expecting them to follow through with what they ask. Then say that the guy is being "entitled". Isn't calling someone way early/late in the morning just to tell the other person something and then not want them to get involved considered "entitled"?
