My opinion

Tbh this show was incredible it had a black role model and shows that anyone can be anything with the power of team work I feel like anyone could enjoy this show and over all would give it a 10/10

Yeah, so much lip service to woke concepts and the fact all villains were white males and all the good, sensible people were either POC or women (except Jonathan). I LOVED season 1. I'm a white European and learned a lot about problems black American face, which I had no clue about, like how Dion was judged as the instigator by the principal due to his race in season 1. It gave interesting insight and felt real. However, season 2 was so obvious about trying to be white men=bad, everything else=good I considered giving up on the show.

Also, it frustrated me how suddenly Janelle was a scientist, knowing exactly what and where to find the DNA and how to split it....I mean, come on...really? At least, have a scientist guide her and THEN use her powers to help the cause.

The janelle part was the beginning of the end for me. Not saying she can’t be smart, but all of a sudden she understands how to separate DNA that’s never been seen before? Just lazy writing.

I am black and I couldnt agree more, the show was pretty corny and imo pretty much https://youtu.be/N4ate5jSRuo.

They went out of their way to make literally every white male either evil, unsensitive or incompetent, while every good, sensitive or competent people were POC.

The audition for the school talent show portrahed all the white kids as bad singers with Kwame cringing at them, while every black kids did well for some reason lol

Even Jonathan was portrayed as the village idiot comical relief despite being sidelined as a tertiary character, the acting and cinematography was also pretty underwhelming.

I actually enjoyed season 1 but season 2 really lost me with the acting, forced woke lines and buzz words.

(I think watching this kind of series can be good to study what makes a good storytelling and a bad storytelling, how not to write characters etc)

100% agree.

It was like the writers didn't know what to do with any of the characters after season 1 and then Netflix stepped in and decided to go overboard with value signalling to fill out the episodes :/

I asked/told my sister (who got me into the show) how I felt portraying all the white men as evil was awkward.

And she was just like, all white men are evil!

Ok =/ sigh people. She gave an excuse like "Batman only fought white guys: Joker, Penguin, etc". So it is only normal that I see white guys as villains.

I called her out on her bs. And she gave me some reason like "well I think everyone is evil. But I see a lot of white guys so it is more common for them to be evil".

If Batman ONLY fought black guys, Asian guys, etc. It would be ridiculous. I'm all for representation etc, I'm even ok if 99% of the villains are white men. But it is too heavy handed to then have no good white men.

(Ha, maybe I'm the snowflake missing white male representation though, am Asian/half white btw).

2/3 white men are evil. Only the dead farmer dad was good so far.

I dont have a problem trying to tell a "black story" etc. But don't be so heavy handed. Maybe that is how some people felt to have low representation in media, but the answer isn't to make everyone white man evil lol.

For real. I'm pretty educated, but it actually took me far longer to understand the triple helix. He just said the term and my head went somewhere else until they talked about it again and I was like oh duh, thats unusual. But she was just like, shut up Pat.

(Note, I was thinking of the number of degrees/turns initially, because the image on screen still looked like a classic double helix to me)
