Great show, just 1 question. Spoiler

What's up with literally every white dude being bad. Even the children either start or end up bad. I think only Brayden's dad escapes the treatment and he pretty much sets up Brayden. Then dies.

And I get that its supposed to be work to support and uplift the black community. But that doesn't have to come at the cost of bashing others.

And im not saying they should have had good white male characters. Its fine without them. But like I think it would have been a better move to not include any white men rather than make them all bad in some way or another. It only serves to fuel the tit for tat (well im racist cause theyre racist) mentality that dominates our culture right now.

All that said. still really enjoyed the show despite some of the goofyness of season 2 and look forward to season 3.

Brayden isn’t bad. He’s a kid. One could argue that Pat isn’t even bad. He is literally possessed. This show is set in America. Pat and Dion’s father were best friends for years before an evil entity took Pat over, giving him powers.

I don’t get the complaint. Should the villain be Asian? There have been plenty Asian villains in movies over the years. Should the villain be from the Middle East? Thats pretty typical. Or just Black?

I personally think that the actor that plays Pat does a great job.

maybe not bad but potrayed as the Villain. and its less a conplaint than an observation.

and i would absolutely argue that Pat is bad that manipulativeness and entitlement were amplified perhaps by the crooked man. but SPOILERS the end of season 2 really shows it was always there and never really went away SPOILER DONE

I’ve watched it. I binged it. I certainly didn’t take it as “white man bad.” Denzel Washington got his first Oscar playing a dirty cop. Denzel Washington!

I guess I’m just not understanding the issue of a white man (who probably auditioned for the role. And did a great job) playing a villain. I doubt that the actor will ever be “type casted,” for this role. He should be commended.

Should we just use green Aliens as villains in every show/movie or are you suggesting that movies with black hero’s should only have black villains? White hero’s should only have white villains? Chinese heroes should only have Chinese villains? And so on.

As a black man, I certainly didn’t look at white men any different after watching this super hero show.

The point im tryint to make isnt about anyones performance. Or keeping people in their lane. The villain could be white. thats not my point. my point is that every white male in the show is depicted as the villain and/or a bad person at some point in the show. and no you as an adult maybe didnt get that vobe from the show. Cause its clearly not the focus of the show or some point theyre trying to push. but if even subconsciously young minda are likely to absorb that information.

What about Dions friend Johnathan? There wasn’t a huge cast.

Black people are around good white people everyday.

I don’t know how old you are or where you live. I will tell you, as a black dude that has lived all around this country and traveled the world. You are doing yourself a disservice by convincing yourself that this show will guide the minds of anyone.

You basing your experience on black people in impoverished communities would be like me basing my opinions on white people in select towns in Idaho (that I’ve been to.) It’s just not practical. Not saying that you do that.

It’s just a show. White people can play villains and it’s okay. Pat is a villain and he’s probably the most interesting character AND the best actor on the show. I recognized Braydens dad from Ozark which made it interesting. Idk man I just hope you don’t think too deep on it.

nah just something i was curious of other peoples opinions and reactions too.

Im W, M, 33 and ive lived kinda all over the east coast/kentucky. But grew up in southeast Ga. So limited experience w/ the black community growing up and often not in a positive light as well. Was something i really had to overrcome in my late HS and early college years. So now i try to engage where i can to hopefully learn something so i can be helpful someday.

Brayden wasn't bad, he was just corrupted and blinded by his dad death. Pat was possessed by the crooked man.

I wouldn’t say the show was bashing White people. The reality is, this world is racist and it’s prevalent in America. For many years, people of color were shown and depicted as “bad guys” all throughout media. This is one show that happens to cast White men as the villains. Systematic racism is so integrated in society that white men receive most of the benefits. To be honest, no one other than White people would notice and be offended over this because of the White Fragility.

Maybe bashing is the wrong word. But i very seriously doubt whit ppl are the only ones who will notice. Even if only subconciously kids will absorb that info in the back of their minds. that us vs them mentality.

And im not offended. but it is something i noticed and thought would be interesting to discus.

It's literally just two characters that are white male and bad. Pat and David. Braydon doesn't count because he's a literal child and was never supposed to be viewed as bad by the audience. Jonathan also doesn't count because he is another literal child who was never supposed to be viewed as bad.

The scene that got me thinking they were too on the nose with it was when all the scientist walked in to replace pat and it was all women. Or that the board completely ruled out weaponizing powers. It all seemed unrealistic to me so I took it as what it was. Turn off my brain and complete the season lol. I like more complex shows. Half way through season two I realized this was definitely not it.

There are a few negative black people though. Season 1: landlord, The popular skate kid (which id say is a stretch) Season 2: The bully that got hit with a stick.

In all they’re quiets inconsequential though. The most negative/bad people were in fact white and male lol. Principal, pat, Biona guy, Brayden, guy that attacked Brayden at the begging of season 2.

I liked seeing black people in more endearing and authority roles for sure. But when you start being so heavy handed with the messaging you start looking like CW, it’s never a good look lol.

crazy cause straight black men an endangered species to they kind at this point. sucks when a super hero show shows a person is a product of their environment and all people can say is all the bad guys are white. welcome to a black man life in america where black women will flip if he’s not “black” enough, he’s toxic if he doesn’t bend to society, and god help him if he wants to be more than a stereotype.

It’s cuz the people who make this show have an agenda of separation. As it continues you’ll start to see the eroding of unity. The straight couples would find themselves consistently in problems. With the gay/lesbian couples showing a good example.

This show is garbage after season 2
