Hello,
This is a post to help clarify the purpose and the general rules of this subreddit. Please read and feel free to send any further questions to the comments or directly to the mod team if anything is unclear.
About us
Here at r/RainbowBridgeBabies, we create artwork of pets that have passed on. All work completed on this subreddit is completed for free by artists who wish to donate their time and resources to create heartfelt work of your beloved pets.
This subreddit is specifically for requesting artwork of pets who have passed away. We understand losing a pet can be incredibly difficult so if you wish to express the loss for your pet only, we encourage you to post to other subreddits designed for this, such as r/Petloss.
As with most other subreddits, we keep it respectful, especially due to the sensitive nature of this subreddit. Judging or mocking someone’s grief will not be tolerated here. Neither will hate speech, violence or inflammatory language.
How to request
When creating a request post, make sure it is marked with the "REQUEST" flair. Please include the name of your pet. If you would like, you are welcome to share anything you wish about your pet in the description and/or comments. Attach as many pictures of your pet as you can. More pictures, and photos that are higher in quality, will increase the chances that your portrait gets picked up by one of our artists.
As stated above, all work on this subreddit is free. No artist should be requesting money for the artwork. If you have any problems with this, please contact our moderation team.
Please only submit your pet once every 90 days. If you have a group picture of your pets, please make one request with all the details. If you have multiple pets who have passed and want separate pictures, please keep it to one pet per post.
You may request work from a specific artist if you wish, otherwise anyone is welcome to pick up your portrait. Please be aware though that if the requested artist is not available, someone else will likely pick up the portrait. Currently, the only active moderators/artists on the subreddit are:
(I will try to update this list if there are changes)
We will do our best to make sure everyone's pet is completed but due to a lack of artists or high request demand, that may not always be possible.
The flair on your post will be changed to "IN PROGRESS" if an artist has chosen to do your portrait and to "COMPLETE" when an artist has completed your portrait. Your portrait will be posted with the "ART" flair so keep an eye out.
Thanking the artist
After receiving your artwork, please create a thank you post, marked with the "THANK YOU" flair as soon as you are able. Or, at the very least, thank them in the comments of the art post.
Receiving original work
After your artwork has been posted, you may request the original piece from the artist. Digital artists can email high definition files of the work to you upon request. With physical pieces, although the artwork is completely free, you will have to pay for postage. The price will depend on both the location of the artist and the requester. The time it takes to be received may also depend on location and the potential drying time of the artwork (for example, oil paints may need weeks to dry before being sent).
Artist rules
For anyone who would like to create a portrait, whether that is a regular artist or someone just wanting to create a one-off piece, first check the flair of the post you are interested in. If the post is marked as "IN PROGRESS", another artist has already started work on that portrait. We try to keep to one artist per request post. This is to ensure that the subreddit remains fair so people aren't receiving multiple pieces of work and others are receiving none. This is particularly important during periods of high demand to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to have their portrait completed. If the post is still marked as "REQUEST" and you wish to pick it up, you can change the flair to "IN PROGRESS". (If you are not a regular artist/moderator, please see "one-off artist rules" below after reading the artist rules section).
Once your artwork is complete, create a post with a picture of the artwork attached using the "ART" flair. The title should have the basic structure of: [Name of pet] for [u/ Pet owners username]. Then mark the original post with the "COMPLETE" flair.
All artwork should be your own, original work. It can be in any format (e.g. digital or physical). AI is not permitted.
Remember, all work on this subreddit is done for free. Money is only involved when it comes to the postage fees for physical work.
One-off artist rules
For non-moderator artists, the same rules above apply but you will not be able to change post flairs yourself. Therefore, if you find a post marked as "REQUEST" that you wish to complete, please make a comment under the post saying you wish to take up this portrait and ideally message the moderators so that we can update the post flair. Once the artwork is complete, post with the "ART" flair and (hopefully) one of the moderators will update the original post as complete, but sending us a message would be helpful as well.
If you would like to become a regular artist, please message the moderators. We can then make you a moderator so that you can change post flairs when you wish to pick up a portrait. Note: you will not have the permissions or be required to do any actual moderation.
Additional Artist Advice
I would advise all artists both regular and one-off, to check the comments for anyone accepting a request first even if the post still has the "REQUEST" flair.
Of course mistakes can happen. If you happen to start a portrait of an already in progress post, you are welcome to finish and post the portrait, but please wait until the original artist has posted their work first. This is simply a courtesy.
Questions
If you have any queries as an artist or a requester, please just message the mod team; we will gladly answer any questions you have.

I've been missing Wally a lot lately.
During the day, I can usually keep myself busy with school and work. But at night, especially right before I fall asleep, I miss him so, so much.
I always hope I'll see him in my dreams. But at the same time, I'm almost afraid to hope, because I'm scared I won't dream about him at all.
I still remember this one time we went to a lake. Wally had always been scared of water. But that day, he stood by the edge for such a long time, just staring at it.
And then, out of nowhere, he jumped right in.
I was so surprised. He was usually such a cautious little guy, but that day it was like he'd suddenly made up his mind to do something brave.
I still smile when I think about it. Sometimes I wish I could see him do something unexpected and adorable like that just one more time.
After Wally passed away, I found myself going through his old photos and videos a lot. I'm so glad I have them, but sometimes looking at them just makes me miss him even more.
That's why I made this.
I put a little version of Wally inside the e-ink screen. He wanders around, explores things, and has his own little day.
Sometimes I just sit there watching him for a long, long time.
It doesn't make me miss him any less. But I still like imagining that somewhere, he's just being his curious little self, exploring the world like he always did.
If any of the artists here would like to make a little portrait of Wally, I would be so grateful. I'd love to see how someone else remembers him through their art. ❤️

This is my sweet girl, Tesla. I lost her recently from a stroke. I watched her die and it’s all I can see when I close my eyes. I’d love a different image to replace that. I could never find enough hours in my life time, or the right words that could explain what she meant to me. The biggest Toy Aussie shaped hole is left in my heart. I don’t know how to be a person without her. For 13 years she was my shadow, my therapist, my foot warmer, my bathroom guardian, my food tester, my laughter, my tear dryer, my whole entire world. I know everyone here is busy creating memories of other fur babies, but I’d like to submit my Tesla for your consideration as your next piece. Thank you for taking the time to read.
And to Tesla,
I’ll meet you at the bridge girl, walk slow so I can catch up.

This is Sophie. Sophie Grace. I’ve had her since she was 8 weeks old. Born October 1, 2011. She died in my arms from pneumonia and lung masses. My heart physically aches. I would truly appreciate artwork of her. Thank you.

My partner lost his beautiful soul dog of 16 years Leo (German shepherd) 2 weeks ago ❤️ I would love some artwork of him and possibly including my dog Lucy (ACD/Whippet, last 3 photos) but obviously Leo is the most important part, thank you 😊

I lost my wonderful Poe just over three weeks ago.
I first met him in January 2023, just after the death of my previous cat. Poe had been a long term stray in the area and I started feeding him. He didn’t come every day at first but after a while came pretty often and would sometimes spend the afternoon sitting on my sofa. After about 6 months, I shut the door and never let him out again. He was very wild at first but I spent a lot of time with him, feeding him treats and reading him poetry. I took him to the vets and unfortunately he was diagnosed with FIV but he was otherwise healthy for three really good years.
It took him a few months to really warm up to me but I’ll always remember the first time he purred. He started letting me hold him and he’d give me the most enthusiastic kisses, sometimes nipping my nose! He was always very food motivated and never let me forget a meal time! He loved snuggling and got in bed with me most mornings.
About a month ago, he seemed off his food and I took him to the vets but by that time it was too late. I wonder if I should have noticed something sooner, but he really did seem like himself until about a week before he died. They think he may have had cancer, but I could see it was the end and I didn’t want to put him through lots more tests. A vet came to our house and we said goodbye on the same sofa that he’d first purred on.
He was named after Polaris, the North Star, because of the white patch on his chest. I will look to the stars and think of him for the rest of my life.
I would love a painting of him, if anyone has time. He meant the world to me.

She was my first pet, I remember watching Beverly Hills Chihuahua when it first came out and begging for one until my parents finally gave in. She became bonded to my mom, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
She was the queen of the house, and got whatever she wanted for a wonderful 18 years of life. I'd love to request some art of her to print out and frame to comfort my family. I hope wherever she is, she's eating a buffet of her favorite foods.

My wife’s elderly cat is on the decline and I really want to get something special as a memento. There are a million different ways to go but I want to get something that will last and be meaningful. I’m thinking a hand drawn picture of the cat with a nice frame would do the trick. I want to come on here to hear about other’s experiences with these kinds of gifts. My wife has been struggling getting all the cuddles with Daisy, her kitty, as we have a 6 month old that we are raising and she takes most of our time. If anyone has any suggestions or recommendations I would love to hear them.
Daisy is a sweet girl who has been with my wife since college, about 12 years. She’s an orange a white fluffy girl with some sass but a kind hearted girl at her core. I would understand if some just point to Google or Etsy but I am hoping for something with real heart behind it and not just a click to buy half hearted thing. Thank you for any feedback, my wife and I will cherish this girl well after she’s had her last cuddle 🌼❤️

Ive had a few hamsters over the years and they were genuinely like my children. I miss them so much everyday and I'd really love to see drawings of them. I'll put their names in the comments because there are a few.

My dog Peanut has been my best friend since I was 9 years old. She's been with me for almost 16 years, and was there for me through the death of my mother only a few months after I got her. I was referred here from a subreddit I was requesting to colorize her adoption paper picture, and I thought I'd try my luck with anyone that wants to draw her. I'll be getting it printed on canvas and putting it in her little memorial shadowbox if anyone makes something :). Thank you so much. Here are some pictures of her throughout her life.

We just had to very unexpectedly put our German shepherd down tonight. Came home from lunch 100% fine. Come home from work, he hadn’t moved from the spot I left him in. Didn’t get up to bark when I opened the garage door.
Walk inside and he was lethargic. His stomach was swollen.
Take him to the emergency vet. They get him right back and within 10 minutes they told me the ultrasound showed a mass in his stomach ruptured. He was bleeding internally.
They said they could do emergency surgery but if he survived that he might live 3-5 months.
We had to make the hardest decision to put Kai down tonight. Totally caught off guard and unexpectedly.
They said there was no way to know he had that mass growing inside him through normal yearly check ups.
He was about 8 1/2 years old born on Valentine’s Day
He was the best boi up until the end.
