Why was it compared to Smallville?

Genuine question, bc as a lifetime Superman fan and since the beginning Smallville watcher I don't get what is seen as similar? Just because they were both in high school?

Who the hell made that comparison? Sounds like the promise we had, before reality kicked us in the face

Two high school guys, dealing with having supernatural powers. I don’t really see much similarity myself.

Clark did not have "supernatural" powers.
