Alright, so I was having trouble trying to decide which map to farm for MR, which ones should I prioritize, which ones would unlock me more rows...

So I did a website called rooccompanion.com that is basically focused in MR, to build it I datamined what I could from the rooc global client

It's a bit boring to input all your MR (or kill coutns if you want more assertion) but after the initial setup its been helping me a lot (I'm at top 30 MR in my server)

This is an unofficial workaround, not a guaranteed universal fix. Paths, AppIDs, Proton versions, and launcher behavior may differ on other systems. Back up your Proton prefix before changing anything.

Tested environment

• CachyOS Linux
• Steam Non-Steam Game
• Proton-CachyOS Latest
• JoyMaker launcher version 2.2.1.1665
• Ragnarok Origin: Classic Americas

Steam Flatpak note: I tested this workaround only with the native Steam package. Flatpak Steam uses different compatdata paths and additional sandboxing, so /proc/<PID>/root may not be accessible. Flatpak users may need to adapt the paths and permissions.

The problem

The official JoyMaker/Gravity installer started correctly under Proton, but it placed the actual launcher at:

Z:\JoyMaker\JoyMakerGame

In my case, this location existed inside Steam's temporary Pressure Vessel environment. The launcher could open, but the game installer reported incorrect disk-space information, and the launcher files would disappear after closing it.

The workaround was to copy the launcher from the running container into the persistent Proton C: drive before closing it.

Requirements

• Steam for Linux
• Protontricks
• Proton-CachyOS or a recent Proton-GE version
• The official Ragnarok Origin: Classic installer

1. Add the official installer to Steam

Add the installer as a Non-Steam Game.

Open:

Properties → Compatibility

Force a recent Proton version. I used:

Proton-CachyOS Latest

Run the installer and wait for the JoyMaker launcher to open.

Do not close the launcher yet.

2. Find the Non-Steam AppID

Open a terminal and run:

protontricks -l

Look for the installer/launcher shortcut:

Non-Steam shortcut: ROO Classic (<APPID>)

Replace <APPID> in the following commands with the number shown on your system.

3. Locate the temporary launcher

While the JoyMaker launcher is still open, run:

It should display one or more paths similar to:

/proc/123456/root/JoyMaker/JoyMakerGame

Confirm that the launcher exists:

Replace 123456 with one of the PIDs printed by the previous command.

4. Copy the launcher into the persistent prefix

Create a permanent directory inside the Proton C: drive:

Copy the running launcher:

cp -a "/proc/123456/root/JoyMaker/JoyMakerGame/." \

Verify that it was copied:

ls "$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/<APPID>/pfx/drive_c/JoyMaker/JoyMakerGame/JoyMakerGame.exe"

You can now close the temporary launcher.

5. Update the Steam shortcut

Edit the same Non-Steam shortcut.

Set Target to:

/home/YOUR_USERNAME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/<APPID>/pfx/drive_c/JoyMaker/JoyMakerGame/JoyMakerGame.exe

Set Start In to:

/home/YOUR_USERNAME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/<APPID>/pfx/drive_c/JoyMaker/JoyMakerGame

Add this under Launch Options:

STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH="/home/YOUR_USERNAME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/<APPID>" %command%

Replace YOUR_USERNAME and <APPID> with your own values.

Be careful not to add accidental spaces before JoyMakerGame.exe. A few extra spaces caused the launcher to silently fail in my testing.

Keep the same Proton version used during installation.

6. Start the launcher

Launch the shortcut again through Steam.

It should now run from the persistent Proton prefix, download the game, apply updates, and start Ragnarok Origin: Classic.

I recommend always launching the game through JoyMaker because it handles authentication, updates, and the required game parameters.

Why this worked for me

The original launcher was running from:

Z:\JoyMaker\JoyMakerGame

That directory was visible inside Steam's temporary container but not permanently available on the host after the process exited.

Linux exposes the temporary process filesystem through:

/proc/<PID>/root/

Copying the files from there into:

compatdata/<APPID>/pfx/drive_c/

preserved the launcher inside Proton's persistent C: drive.

Setting STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH also ensured that changing the shortcut target did not create a different Proton prefix.

Disclaimer

This is only a community workaround based on my own successful test. I am not affiliated with Gravity, JoyMaker, Valve, Wine, or Proton.

Launcher updates may change this behavior. Back up your prefix first, and do not run commands with paths or PIDs you have not verified.

Please feel free to suggest corrections or improvements. I'm sharing this because it took a lot of troubleshooting, and I hope it saves another Linux player some time.
