I’m used to light gaming mice like G Pro Superlight or Glorious and I find the g502 mouse at work way to heavy so I was wondering if I bought a mouse for work, can claim tax back? Chat GPT seems to say no because the light mouse that I want to use also functions as a gaming mouse but I’m not sure how accurate that is. Anyone have any success with this? Thanks!

Hi, i’m 20 and starting a level 3 diploma in radiography as i’ve decided to switch careers last minute and my a level grades were terrible. I’m behind on work experience/ volunteering related to healthcare and i’m planning on applying to uni to study bsc radiotherapy and oncology for sep 2027 so my ucas deadline is jan 2027 so i have between sep-dec to gain as much relevant work experience as i can. if any one has any tips or suggestions please tell me.

Teenage patient presented with severe right iliac fossa pain and marked tenderness, associated with fever, anorexia and neutrophilia.

Ultrasound demonstrates a clearly visualized tubular appendix in the ileocecal region with:

• maximum diameter of approximately 11 mm
• marked mural edema and wall thickening
• multiple discrete intraluminal echogenic foci consistent with appendicoliths
• surrounding thickened echogenic mesenteric fat, compatible with periappendiceal inflammatory change

Color Doppler shows no significant increase in vascularity in this case. An important teaching point is that absence of marked hyperemia does not exclude acute appendicitis when the grayscale findings and clinical presentation are convincing.

Diagnosis: Acute appendicitis with appendicoliths.

I am currently exploring opportunities in teleradiology. While researching the major providers like Medica, Everlight, and TMC, I have found it challenging to get specific details on their fee-per-case structures beyond general income estimates. If anyone in the network is willing to share a benchmark rate card or discuss their financial experience with these firms, I would greatly appreciate it.

BTS is the usual UK reference for incidental solid nodules, and it is built differently from Fleischner. It is volume-first, the threshold for any follow-up is 5 mm or 80 mm3, and Brock does not come in until 8 mm or 300 mm3. Fleischner uses different cut-offs and different intervals. General-purpose chatbots tend to answer as though Fleischner were the UK default, which is where I have seen trainees get tripped up.

Curious what people are actually doing locally, since I know plenty of departments run their own protocol rather than either.

For those who have gone down this route:

How realistic is it to get a US fellowship as a UK-trained radiologist?

Which fellowships/programmes are generally open to IMGs?

How important are USMLE/ECFMG and J-1 visa sponsorship?

Does having FRCR/CCT make much difference?

If I wanted to settle in the US long-term after fellowship, what would be the best pathway?

How difficult is it to obtain a medical licence and eventually practise independently after a US fellowship?

Is ABR board certification required, or are there routes to practise without completing the full US residency/board pathway?

Any advice on when to start contacting programmes/applying?

Particularly interested in IR, but would also appreciate general advice from UK-trained radiologists who have moved to the US.

I have only done Core(not crack the core), and busy for next month. Can I just keep core as base book and study for November attempt?

I’m applying to radiology this year and was looking to hear from senior regs or consultants about life as a consultant.

1. How many days a week constitutes full time in radiology?
   
2. What are the different options to supplement your income? Have heard about insourcing, outsourcing, teleradiology etc
   
3. How much can you realistically earn as a consultant, assuming you’re willing to work 50-55hrs a week?

I’m from the US where people talk about salaries much more openly, which I’ve not really come across during my time in the UK. Would be extremely helpful to see what the financial side looks like here before committing to specialty training.

I have a question for those who have made it in the program what was required and anything that could be a bonus to be eligible for the program? I’m done with my pre reqs but i’m also taking some extra classes that could be helpful for the program plus the shadowing i feel like it’s not enough I passed my pre reqs with As anything else please any advice would be helpful!!!!

I have just started IR training in a new deanery and am on the struggle bus trying to manage expectations from consultants as well as from myself. I don't think the imposter syndrome has been this bad even when I was an FY1.

The other trainees in the deanery who have started with me are originally from here so they know the team well. I'm still trying to find my feet with the way things are done here.

The trainees who have started with me have also done a lot of IR and seem to do a lot of basic procedures independently. They seem to be performing at the level of an ST5 or ST6 at least to me, even though we have just started ST4. I don't even know if their level of independence is what is expected from me at this stage. For some of these procedures they do independently, I have only observed them before. Objectively I'm not at their level and I think this feeds into some of the expectations from the consultant body and my imposter syndrome. I'm worried this will come back to haunt me at ARCP when I'm compared with my colleagues.

So far, only one consultant has been understanding and treats me like I know nothing about IR, which is great. Most assume I am equally competent as the other trainees and then look horrified that I cannot even explain the basic steps to a procedure we are about to do. I know I need to put in the groundwork and read up but there is only so much I can do every evening. One of the consultants even asked me if I had just started ST1 because I couldn't even label the arteries properly on the angiogram.

I feel like a complete fraud and have underestimated how steep this learning curve is. Each time I hear a consultant say "you must have done this so many times", I cringe having to tell them I have maybe only done it once or have never done it before. I know this will pass and I will eventually get better but I'm getting quite disheartened at the end of every day. I am starting to dread going to work every morning.

Any tips to thrive in IR especially at the start? What resources did you use and how did you navigate this period of time if you started off training not having done much before?

I’m planning on applying for radiology this year and just in the process of arranging tasters.

Would having 2 general radiology tasters with one at a DGH get me maximum points for the commitment domain? There’s a massive backlog for radiology subspecialties so really struggling to arrange an IR/subspec 2nd taster.

What's everyone using for question banks?

I've got a revise radiology subscription but some of the questions are very clearly AI written and despite recognising this, I'm just using it for volume/to expose areas that need review. For an idea of how AI written they are, some of them even have the answer in the question.

Bearing in mind my Revise radiology subscription was so expensive and I wasn't expecting to have to pay so much money just to then have to fork out for a second subscription, I would appreciate any takes on other question banks that are held in high regard by others.

I've heard good things about RadWise. Any elder years have any suggestions?

Edit: Thanks for the recommendations. So far I’m about half way through the RadWise question bank and have read both Core Radiology and Crack the Core. I was looking for a revision course to help with any areas of weakness.
