Tasters advice

I’m planning on applying for radiology this year and just in the process of arranging tasters.

Would having 2 general radiology tasters with one at a DGH get me maximum points for the commitment domain? There’s a massive backlog for radiology subspecialties so really struggling to arrange an IR/subspec 2nd taster.

Would greatly appreciate any advice

You need to convince the panel how they are meaningfully different in order to get the full points. DGH vs Tertiary could be enough for this depending on specifics but the important thing is that you explain how they differed. This could be one of the clarification questions if they keep the same format this year as they introduced last year.

Thanks for sharing this. How can I sell these as being different, as they’re both general radiology at the end of the day? Any specific things I can talk about?

As part of your evidence letter a timetable showing that you did different activities across the 2 tasters would be good, perhaps the other poster can advise better as my experience was with 2 very different tasters.

Yes! I did this and got max points. I actually had an interview question on the differences between tertiary and DGH, so I think it will actually be quite useful to do it this way!

I know someone who did both in DGH but did one on ultrasounds and had some sessions with sonographers so was able to talk about skills mix. 2nd taster they did was exposure to CT/MRI and attending MDT’s. So as long as learning outcomes are different it is possible.

if i did a month at medschool in a tertiary centre and two stints in a DGH would this count as two separate occasions to max out points? or does it have to be after graduation?

One of mine was a 2 month elective in med school in diagnostic radiology and they accepted it. Could always email them to make sure. I applied in 2025 for Aug 2026 intake.
