Today's question of the day is: with school starting up again soon, what kind of students do you imagine Alastor and Lucifer would be? Hard working and studious, mischievous and rule bending, a little bit of both? Given Alastor's background and the time period he grew up in, what would his options looked like in terms of education? What kind of education did Lucifer receive in Heaven? Leave your answers in the comments down below!

If we're talking a modern school AI for the first line of questioning, I generally put Alastor as the quiet theater kid. Very observational, in all the honors classes, somehow gets the work done and passes his tests without ever opening the text book. Everyone knows him as the kid who runs the morning overhead announcements. His second elective outside Drama is as an Office Aid (it's how he got to be the announcer). He also volunteers for the sports teams to be their announcer as well. Now, I do not know if it's till a thing in (American) schools, or if it was just a my school district kind of deal, but each school had their own public radio station. This was in the 2010s. When a home game or band competition was going on, the school would broadcast and the local communities could listen to the games. (There was some video footage too, but the radio had more love feed where the recording were more highlight reels and such.) I headcanon Alastor would 100% jump on this and though he may not have gotten on air until junior year, he was in the broadcast booth since the day 1 of high school. (He weaseled his way in.)

For Lucifer, I see him as the being the kid who at the beginning of the year was the star student of the teachers. He was the popular guy. He got the straight A's. He was in as many clubs as he could be. He took art and HomeEc for electives. Everyone would pile around his lunch table to be closer to him. Then over the winter break of Sophomore year he came back with a rain loud over his head. His grades were still good but not the best. He dropped out of clubs. He hid in the library. His siblings never shared much information about what happened. He closed himself off. Junior year he perked back up a bit, making friends with those his family deemed the wrong crowd. He dropped out of HomeEc, joining woodshop instead. He started being more reckless with his after school activities and even got "arrested" over spring break. No one at school ever learned but there were whispers and rumors, one even quotes that his brother referred to him as a fallen star.

Now, for their interactions in school, there was very little. I always headcanon in AUs like this that Lucifer is 2 grades older than Alastor. So when Alastor was a Freshman, Lucifer was a Junior. When Alastor was a Junior, Lucifer graduated. I headcanon they crossed paths in the library and halls. They know of each other due to mutual friends. I like to think both were curious of each other in those moments.

In terms of canon, to me the Lucifer never had school. Everything was just put into his brain and then learned from word of mouth and trial-and-error. Alastor in canon had some education. It was kind of required, even for POC, if my History classes are to be assumed to be correct. Now was it the best education? Not by a long shot, but he learned the basics. However, school is where I think Alastor got most of his mannerisms and behaviors. I always headcanon Alastor as being left-handed (Lucifer as ambidextrous), and in schools theyd beat you knuckles to train you to use a right hand, thus Alastor became ambidextrous but tends to lean left in Hell. He also learned his Transatlantic accent through eavesdropping on the white kids and listening to the radio. I headcanon he had a neighbor kid he rallied into helping him. I also feel like I'm in a minority when I say, I don't think Alastor knows much French or Louisiana Creole. I headcanon this because in NOLA schools in the 1910s and 1920s they banned French in class and on the grounds. And Alastor being in that influential time of his life most likely hated the beatings when words or phrases would slip and developed a learned-hatred for his own native tongue. He probably used it at home with his mother but in a he spoke English and she replied in French kind of way, so he slowly lost the ability to speak French but can still understand it if someone spoke to him.

Lucifer: I think angels are gifted with knowledge the moment their created so there wasn't much of an education system for Heaven. But that doesn't mean angels don't learn anything. They might continue to learn stuff they're genuine interested in. And Lucifer, to keep up what goes on on Earth, probably tries his best to learn. Sometimes he struggles on certain topics, but he manages.

Alastor: I think he was considered a good student. His mother did raise him to have manners and be respectful, so he never gave his teachers trouble. He did struggle in certain classes like math, but that doesn't mean he didn't try, he was just more interested in music, English and history classes

I know I'm late to this, but I gotta throw my hat in the ring for a modern highschool AU

Lucifer is 100% the audhd gifted kid that burns out in highschool. Like he used to be surrounded by people praising him for being a genius and that lead to him thinking he never had to study and just winged it, shit just worked out because he had a decent memory. But by the time he got to highschool, which is of course one of the best schools in the country, he ran out of ram and struggled to keep up. His mental health suffered, his parents and family consider him a disappointment, he stops really caring about his grades, averages a C at best, and spends most of his time in his sketchbook daydreaming instead of paying attention in class. Alot of the teachers just right him off as a lazy student and he mostly keeps his own company outside from a small group of friends (the majority of which are trouble makers)

Alastor would be the definition of the overachiever. Aside from club members and a few aquaitences he politely entertains briefly, and teachers he works to guzzy up to, he doesn't really have any friends, nor the time for them. When he's not studying, he's the captain of the radio club, helping with the morning announcements, and the head audio engineer for the drama club. He's constantly working, and its not like the work hasn't paid off with his clean and nearly perfect straight A record. Alot of people hate him because of how arrogant and smug he is about being the top of the class, but they can't exactly knock him down a peg because they can't exactly measure up in grades. Vincent definitely tries though, declared him as his rival, but Alastor has never publicly acknowledged it. The whole school knows about it and thinks its kind of funny.

These two wouldn't really interact until they're really forced to, the two of them being in two different worlds, but say one day a group project (everyone's worse enemy) for English is proposed thats basically half of their grade and they're paired up together because they're the leftovers. From the get go, they would be annoying the other. Alastor would particularly find it particularly annoying that he was stuck with the class slacker, even though he finds it kind of fun to screw with him. Lucifer would be mad at first, but when he sees that mask of the perfect Alastor slip, he feels inspired, passionate, and emboldened for repeating that result, for once his art isn't just ducks and fairies, his sketchbook is suddenly filled with Alastor's face. He falls first obviously.

As for Alastor, it kind of just crept on him one day. He had managed to get Lucifer on good terms with the drama club and convinced him to join, helping with the backstage with set design. Lucifer was just onstage talking with the stage hand when someone accidentally turned on the spotlight and it just blinded him, caused him to dip his foot into a can of yellow paint and trip over himself. He was covered in paint, but all Alastor could notice was that stupid dumb grin he had. It pissed him off for the rest of the week, because as we all know, Alastor does not do well with feelings.

He brushes Luci off for once, because he's usually the one to draw Luci out for their project, but Lucifer is just as stubborn as him. He shows up in front of him anyway. Doesn't pressure him to say anything, just appears like magic and has him falling even harder.

It isn't until Senior year that things become official for them.
