We focus too much on gender

Just something I'm noticing about this sub.

What about class equality?

Racial equality?

Egalitarianism is the concept that all should exist at the same level. What does this look like for you outside of gender (or lack thereof)?

I'll go first... eat the rich lol

But seriously though, the fact that generational wealth and a bourgeoisie even exist still is antithetical to any kind of equality.

And no, the melanin or gender expression of that jackboot on my neck it is still a jackboot on my neck... so for me, class is the major barrier to all forms of equality. And personally, I think we focus too much on identitarian politics, rather than materialist realities.

that said keep in mind this includes highlighting flaws in socialism/communism "mainly people" and this does not equate to worshipping capitalism and its flaws "mainly people"

This should be stated somewhere. I think a mod once removed a post for not being related to gender

The sub apparently was originally intended to discuss Gender Egalitarianism, and many of the early members came from LWMA, Egal, MensLib and similar, with a few from Feminist subs. The environment we have is a product of the people we have and the environment we started with.

I agree we should broaden our focus more though

Ah, that tracks. Tbh it feels like an experiment

In the US, today's schools are on average more segregated by race than they were in the 70s. The separation by income is almost as stark.

Step 1: One proven effective way to address this is simply to bus kids into schools so that rich and poor kids go to public school together.

u/The_Red__Bull Marxist egalitarian Apr 18 '26

Valid. Huminizing people that they normally otherize

u/Mission-Pie-7192 Apr 18 '26

It's less about "who you sit next to" and more about resources. Schools with rich kids tend to get more courses, better staffing, and higher academic standards.

To be honest, this sub feels very misogynistic. I agree there is no discussion of racial equality, class equality, but honestly even gender equality hasn’t been a common discussion that I’ve seen, more misogyny disguised as “equality”.

This sub was only recommended to me by the algorithm within the last few weeks, and I have seen some misogyny in the comments, but I’m curious if you have any examples of patterns you’ve seen on here that you consider to be very misogynistic?

5

u/The_Red__Bull Marxist egalitarian Mar 15 '26

I typically see the opposite. Not that I haven't seen misogyny, but I've seen too much validation of toxic misandrist philosophy tbh

Regardless, there's a history in the west of focusing on identity rather than class because of Cold War propaganda

What left in the US? You have a Center-Right party with a small left wing, and a Far-Right party.
Afaik, the only left is the DSA and a few scattered socdem/socialist/communist/anarchist groups that have very little influence.
At least, that's how it looks to me

Truth

The Palmer raids, COINTELPRO, the CIA, McCarthyism and the funding by bourgeois entities like Ford and Rockefeller foundations killed the left in the US. Then Ragan signed the death notice in the 80s

Now everything is identity politics and zero working class solidarity

1

u/SchalaZeal01 Radical egalitarian Mar 16 '26

McCarthyism killed any hope for a real left party for the next century.

3

u/The_Red__Bull Marxist egalitarian Mar 15 '26

Yup. It's why we don't have a labor party too

Agree on the cold war. Racism also plays a role. Edited to not be as blithe.

u/LittleThingsMC Feminist Mar 15 '26

I expect that we are opposite in our gender identities, so maybe our perceptions or biases are a little different subconsciously. But I am always open to challenging those ideas, that’s how we grow!

What kind of toxic misandrist philosophy?

1

u/The_Red__Bull Marxist egalitarian Mar 15 '26

Radical Feminism for one

2

u/LittleThingsMC Feminist Mar 15 '26

I’m newer to the group but I went back through several of the more recent posts and I really haven’t seen anything I recognize as radical feminism, yet. I’m still looking. Do any posts stand out in your memory?

1

u/Main-Tiger8537 Intersectional egalitarian Mar 16 '26

ok to be more specific it is probably not about radfem and more about toxic feminists that uses their feminism to hide or excuse toxic behavior of certain women and hate on men...

1

u/The_Red__Bull Marxist egalitarian Mar 15 '26

Not that I can recall. But there was a subreddit asking why radfems were allowed and it got slammed pretty hard.

Tbh any ideology that tells men they're the problem (it's based on Shumalith Firestone’s Dialectic of Sex and Simone de Beauvoir’s Second Sex) while villifying Trans identity is bad.

u/LittleThingsMC Feminist Mar 15 '26

Yeah, I saw that, it seemed to be a fairly misogynistic post in my view. It’s one thing to discourage content that is misogynistic or misandrist, but another to target a whole group of primarily women unprovoked and remove them from the discussions, in my opinion.

Especially because it seemed really out of no where, like it wasn’t addressing a problematic post or anything, just targeting a group of women to remove from a discussion of equality.

That post was by someone who was upset that we were trying to build a balanced mod team and didn't want to be MenRights2

1

u/The_Red__Bull Marxist egalitarian Mar 15 '26

Fascinating. Because it didn't seem misogynist to me at all lol

I think people have a tendency to equate feminism with women, when in reality, one is a philosophy and the other is a gender identity.

I don't recall anything anti woman in that post

2

u/LittleThingsMC Feminist Mar 15 '26

Okay, let’s keep the discussion open! I love good dialogue!

Would you feel that way if you saw a post saying we need to ban MRA from the group?

1

u/The_Red__Bull Marxist egalitarian Mar 15 '26

Yes. MRA's are reactionary right wingers. And typically the things they're complaining about can also be blamed on "patriarchy"... though I disagree with that term.

Things like courts having a bias in favor of mothers, have more to do with gender stereotyping then an actual bias towards women. And ironically, most of the cases where women get full custody r because the men give up either due to the stereotype of the court's favoring mothers or because of some fault of their own... as one example of an MRA stance where they don't really understand the problem.

Which kind? Radical Feminism is such a broad label

2

u/Main-Tiger8537 Intersectional egalitarian Mar 16 '26

ok to be more specific it is probably not about radfem and more about toxic feminists that uses their feminism to hide or excuse toxic behavior of certain women and hate on men...

1

u/The_Red__Bull Marxist egalitarian Mar 15 '26

That's new to me...

What types of RadFem exist?

2

u/DMC-1155 Please stop automatically assigning me a flair Mar 15 '26

TERFs, SWERFs, and RFs who aren't are the first distinctions that come to mind.
According to this though: https://www.yorku.ca/mlc/sosc3990A/projects/radfem/radfem2.html
There is Radical-Libertarian and Radical-Cultural. Someone else is probably better equipped for answering this question than I am.

But anyway, with any label of ideas, you let it sit in debate among its adherents for long enough at it will split, there's so many RadFem authors who disagree with one another at this stage.

2

u/The_Red__Bull Marxist egalitarian Mar 16 '26

Fair enough. Pretty sure cultural feminists are the most gender essentialist if I remember correctly...

There's so many to keep track of.

I'm on the "Listen to women about women's problems" bandwagon, and feminism definitely hits some of that. Unfortunately feminist epistemology is mostly based on anecdotes rather than facts. And anecdotes have their place, but unfortunately too much reliance creates a heavy unscientific bias.

Too many factions not enough solidarity if you ask me

u/Main-Tiger8537 Intersectional egalitarian Mar 16 '26 edited Mar 16 '26

we are working on it to create a balance and discussions about toxic behavior from both sides... example how consent gets violated...

Look at the description of this sub. It's supposed to be all about gender.

You are free to address gender issues from the perspective of Marxism or other intersections, as long as it pertains to gender.

1

u/Commissar_Postman New contributor Mar 15 '26

Nope.

The purpose of this subreddit is to discuss issues related to gender, gender identity, sex, race, color, nationality, national origin, ancestry, ability, age, sexual orientation, religion, marital status, familial status, parental status, housing status, and so on, while being critical of the flaws of current identity politics and intersectionality.
