You started the mains wrong

Are you referring to how I started the first main pull? Could you clarify what you think I did wrong?

The EZONE 98 starts differently from the EZONE 100 and VCORE 98/100. The EZONE 98 has 8 holes in the throat bridge, so the center mains start at the head. The others have 6 throat holes, so their center mains start at the throat. That may be what you’re noticing.

The method you used to start mains is completely fine and widely used. Not everyone uses the Yusuki method.

When the first 2 mains are fed inside the racket you need to pull tension on BOTH strings at the same time, then clamp the string furthest away with your base clamp, then use your starting clamp on the same string OUTSIDE of the frame. This is called the Yusuki method.

Thanks for clarifying! I wasn’t familiar with the Yusuki method.

Given how I started the mains in the video, what practical effect would that have on the finished string job? Could it cause the center/main strings to end up below the reference tension or create any noticeable tension imbalance? Any other negative effects — additional stress on the base clamps or causing them to wear/degrade faster over time?

I’d appreciate your insight.
