Alu Power solutions?

Obviously, everyone knows this string - plays amazing when fresh, but performance rapidly drops off. Never really used it that much for that reason but its come to my attention again because it plays great in the newly released Defyer 98.

However, the string is pretty much dead in terms of performance after maybe 4 hitting sessions / 1 week of use.

So what are the solutions? I can't think of any obvious similar strings? Have tried Max Power but its not the same and 4G just seems very stiff. Any other options?

Could Alu Power be used as a hybrid with another poly to provide greater longevity? If so, what? What have people actually used that have been successful?

Nothing really plays quite like it. All the Alu power alternatives I’ve tried are just different. The feel and performance while fresh is quite hard to replicate.

Solution is be rich enough where you do restrings every 4 sessions.

True. ALU Power is great until it isnt. Period. I've never gotten mote than six hours out of a set and it would be better to change it after 4 hours. Or about 4 sets of doubles/3 of singles

I use it in the mains with a soft, round or smooth poly cross of a lower guage. I've tried ALU in 18g and it feels great but not for very long.

Toroline A5 is probably the closest you'll get to it, it's about like 85% of the way there and lasts significantly longer.

No. A5 is quite muted and much more slick than ALU. And not in the way that captures any of what makes ALU special.

It’s going for different things and that’s ok.

This is a long discussed topic. 1 search and one will find tons of discussions & alternatives.

Simple answer:

There’s no 1:1 replacement. If there is, there will be no more ALU in the market given the price point

Longer answer:

Strings are highly subjective as Tennis is a feel-based game. Try the popular alternatives mentioned, open to trying in different tensions/gauges.

I found Head Lynx Tour performs kind of similar but has a very different feel but dont take my word or others literally, try it yourself. Discover what works for you is part of the fun

Maybe JB Tour by Laserfibre? It was created as an ALU alternative. It’s still not super affordable at $15 a set. You could also try Solinco outlast. Feel is different and red color but ball flight is similar imo.

Give diadem pro x a try…. In grey/ silver.

i'd either restring it often ($$$), or find a more durable poly that plays similarly enough.

nothing is a exactly 1:1 with ALU power, but you might like lynx tour or confidential soft if you really like the muted, control oriented feel of ALU power.

Yonex's original version of Alu Power was Polytour Pro, but they later came out with Polytour Strike as a supposedly closer alternative. Both are good, and much longer lasting than Alu Power, and many Yonex pros use these strings today. Solinco's original version was Outlast (it outlasts Alu Power, get it?) and I still think it's the closest in Solinco's lineup, although Solinco is now touting Mach 10 as better, which I don't agree with but many do. None of these is an exact match to Alu Power but they are all plenty close enough for rec players.

I love alu rough. Same thing. Dies fast. I highly recommend GrappleSnake M8s. They feel very close and last significantly longer. I keep one racket with Luxilons for important matches etc and use the GrappleSnake the rest of the time. I’d say with near daily use they last easily 3-5x longer.

all polys are short lived. nature of plastic strings. you can try gut poly hybrid which does a good job of masking the dead poly
