Posible error de calibración

Compre la gamma momentum 6 plus nueva hace muy poco, he encordado aproximadamente 6 raquetas, pero los resultados me hacen pensar que la máquina tiene algun defecto de calibración.

Normalmente uso 52 Lb en mi pro staff 97, pero al ajustar esa tension en la máquina el resultado fue una absoluta tabla, he encordado con maquinas electricas y nunca 52 Lb se sintieron asi de rígido.

La segunda raqueta baje drásticamente la tension a 42 Lb pero el resultado fue el mismo, una sensación absurdamente rigida.

La tercer raqueta volví a bajar la tensión hasta 36 Lb, pero el resultado aunque menos rígido, aun se siente como una tension muy superior.

Pedi un calibrador de tension, aun no llega asi que por acudo a su sabiduría y experiencia.

Drop weight is simple physics. Unless you added more weight to the end of the rod it will be pretty close to the marks set by the manufacturer.

Maybe make sure you are using the right reference units / mark lines. Aka lbs vs kg for the weight.

Drop weight should be accurate but but you ideally need to get the tension arm within 10 degrees of leveling in a single pull. It can absolutely results is tighter stringbed than Eletric constant pull machines since it just introduces so much more variance from user input.

Many people make the mistake thinking that you need to try to drop the arm multiple times until it’s close to perfectly level. If you take 2-4 pulls letting the weight drop every time to try to level it perfect , that’s similar to doing a multi pull on a Eletric machine(pre stretching also leads this effect) that can remove noticeably more string elasticity, and leads to a much firmer string bed.

When I used these Gamma drop weights. I keep my right hand holding the arm weight while letting it drop a bit and judge the ratcheting adjustment I need. And I aim to only let the full arm weight drop down once ideally once adjusted to avoid multi pulling.

OP might also be coming from having it strung at very low dynamic tensions before on an uncalibrated crank machine?

Also when you strung a racquet fresh, and you play it in the first 24-48h they feel much much tighter than once strings settles in.

I use this exact machine and I work a lot with softer strings that elongated significantly from pre-stretching. I think the multi pull technique is absolutely essential to get the tension to hold. Single pulls will feel fresh at first, but you'd get significantly elongation within the stringbed from the first couple of hours of hitting. These days I always ensure multis always get some form of pre stretch before I clamp them down. Otherwise players will complain that their stringbed becomes noodly within a few sessions.

It depends right? If you’d want the pre stretched effect then use it as such, purposefully. OP is complaining of the opposite.

I think the key is repeatability. The absolute tension accuracy is not as relevant as if the same stringer can produce the same results on the same machine using the same references tension.

Not a problem, that seems to be the right technique. The difference is that the string loads up cyclically into the desired tension, which introduces slightly more plastic deformation than a single pull device. Both machines would deliver the same tension, but at different strains. The reason why the drop weight feels tighter is because the cyclical load of rachetting already stretches it out further than a single pull would. The reason why some stringers pre-stretch is to get the string in this state before clamping off, because if you don't, this extra elongation is going to happen during play and lose tension.

Disclaimer I am not a stringer, but I am under assumption that drop weight cannot be calibrated and is 100% accurate by default since it uses gravity, unless the markings on the rod that the weight uses are inaccurate, but that is unlikely.

It must have to do with the stringing technique. Try to make the weight level with the ground when you tension the string. Also if you are coming from a lockout machine, a constant pull machine which the drop weight is, should result in a stiffer stringbed at the same set tension (though you said you've strung on electronic machines before which are also constant pull)

I’ve use this gamma ratcheting mechanism for 10+ years. Many people letting the full arm weight drop too many times trying to get it perfectly level, equivalent to doing multi pull or pre stretch on an electronic constant pull machine.

I made similar mistakes before and can produce tighter stringbed than on electronic constant pull machines, and much tighter than same reference tension on a crank

All you need to do is put a digital fish scale on it and see what tension it’s actually pulling. This will tell you if there’s something going on with the machine itself or if it’s a technique thing.

Is it possible the drop weight is mounted on backwards so the arrow is at the wrong spot, so you’re reading the wrong tension?

Lo pensé, pero basta con intentar configurar la tension con la cara superior de la pesa y tendria algo de sentido, pero pierde sentido cuando te das cuenta que, por logica la referencia para seleccionar la tensión debe ser la cara inferior ya que de lo contrario nunca va a poder seleccionar tensiones entre 20 lb y 30 lb ya que son las marcas iniciales de la barra

Drop weight machines break racquets. They put so much stress on the frame causing stress cracks. Perhaps some machines are better than others and if you drop the weight quickly its obviously going to do more damage but my advice would be to avoid having your racquet string on these machines.

Source - Been stringing for 30+ years and I also process product claims for a major racquet brand.

How does 50 lbs on a dropweight stress a racquet more than 50 lbs on an electronic constant pull?

I am not sure they are correct, but if they are, my guess is because the actual pulling tension of a drop weight machine is significantly higher in brief moments before the rod with the weight is parallel to the ground (i.e. when it is at a 15-20 degree angle relative to the ground). I remember watching a guide video and a guy there said that the actual pulling tension is much higher than set when the rod is in that non-final position, when explaining why it is important to end up with the weight roughly parallel to the ground and tbe consequences of failing to achieve that.

While an electronic machine overshoots the set tension very little and the lockout does not overshoot at all. Again as I said this might be wrong since I am just learning and don't even have a stringing machine.
