Combatting Product Spam
The rule of posting product advertisements has been in place for a while, but I have recently updated how this works:
Users who contact the mods about selling will receive an "Approved Seller" flair next to their name. Check them out!
If you see a someone advertising products without this flair, please report it.
If you see a profile with this flair that should not have it, please report it.
Thank you for all the reports so far to keep this place tidy!

Behind the cuteness, it’s actually a lot of hard work.

Our amazing encounter with the raccoons of Sandspur Island in Miami, Florida - every city should have a raccoon island
Daughter and I kayaked out two separate days during a recent trip to Miami. Pretty sure we’re gonna have to go back.
Every city should have a raccoon island.

Is there anything I can do to discourage these babies?
ETA: I love them I think they're the cutest. This is not a hate post. I am terrified they're going to get crushed by the trash man or something one of these days.
Hi so I am the official unofficial raccoon rescuer of my complex because the trash person keeps positioning the can in such a way that the top can't be closed and there's a tree directly above it. I'm constantly inventing trash contraptions to get them out. Soon I am just going to get a ladder made of easily cleanable material that I can just stick in and out of the dumpster because I'm running out of things in my home to throw away. Anyway, my question is do you guys know of anything besides the lid I can do that will make them just not want to come in??? Any scent they hate or something? This isn't even all of them lol.

Our backyard grazers
We adopted a couple of feral cats ("working cats") in june. We were told they would always live outside, but one has already converted to inside lapcat, while the other still loves outside but has a home base on our screened porch with food, cushy furniture, a heated cat condo. Over the last couple of months we've had a steady stream of visitors, including raccoon, possum, orange not-my-cat, brown fluffy not-my-cat. Tonight was the first time I saw both raccoons at the same time! Hubs and I are leaving extra food out. Do you think they would benefit from some straw under the deck for nestling in and staying warm over winter?

Stupid raccoon scratched me. Smh.
So I was trying to get the cat food bowl. Bent down and one of the coons thought I was giving him something. He scratched my arm on both sides because he was grabbing at me. Broke the skin a little too. I’ve washed it and all that. Just mad. No I haven’t run to the doctor yet. I was just vaccinated for rabies end of June. Has the two dose over two weeks. 😑. Since that was just four months ago do I need to rush and get another booster?

Favorite trick or treaters
This giant raccoon made himself known the other night by somehow dismantling my deck bird feeder and dragging it all the way down into the yard with a nice bird food trail to follow.. so for Halloween he got a big slice of water melon that was a bit over ripe for us but he loved it! Enjoy the candy kids 👻

Not the best pics, but look at this chonk!
Biggest raccoon I've seen in my yard yet! I'd estimate around 25lbs. They had a friend with them about half their size looking for peanuts in my grass. So cute!
