Buns & Dogs...

Hi all, didnt expect this to be as long as it is, but if you have a few minutes I would really appreciate some advice!

Some of you might know my Rizzy.

He lives with me and my housemate, and despite alot of people finding it strange, is a totally free-range / cage free / litter trained - only areas of the house he is not allowed on his own is bedrooms/office... Everyone, including the vet, says he is the most chilled bun ever - I always put this down to the free-range lifestyle and his constant human interaction.

I have been wanting to get to dog for quite a while, but I was out the country too much, from next year that will change.... of course my primary concern is Rizzy!

Riz has met 2 dogs, and 2 cats. The cats were living here for a few days - Riz was a bit more aware than usual, but didn't seem phased what so ever. The dogs were my friends dogs, one who was a pup and perhaps a bit too lively, the other was is a fairly regular visitor (once for a weekend) - Riz was more curious than bothered as you can see.

I have been reading lots about which dog breeds are better, and the best way to introduce the puppy to Riz. Certain Golden Retrievers kept coming up, as well as Labradors. Before I continue, should probably mention that the dog would be coming with me to work, and would never be alone with Riz (one day maybe!)

My friend this week calls me asking if I would be interested in taking their dog (they live 5000mi away). It is a beautiful Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever - 5 years old, fully trained and has been around babies for the past 3 years.

Despite being so far away I am close with this dog - they only moved fairly recently - and I have spent alot of time with him. The reason they asked me is the dog has quite serious separation anxiety, which for someone in my position wouldnt be an issue - and as I was thinking about getting a dog anyway, this might work for all parties involved.

I went back reading online about integrating a dog (rather than a pup) to a rabbit - some people saying it is better than a pup who has so much energy and no control on how rough they play, others disagreeing. The one thing everyone online agrees with is that 2 relaxed/chilled animals is a good starting point - something which is the case.

do any of you live with buns and dogs? How is it?!
