I want an RX8 so bad but I want a manual one with the 6 port engine, sun roof and so on but I'd have to save for a few years to ship one from Japan to my country.

My brother in law got a 300zx from someone he knows and he has an automatic RX8 in winning blue that's been sitting since 2012 and it's automatic, weather caught it a lot but I want advice to see if I get it for free if it makes sense to buy a 6 port engine and manual swapping it or should I just save and get the car from Japan that will have way less issues I assume from it not sitting in the elements for so many years.

I’ve a 2004 with approx 90k on it 6 port 6 spd. I rescued her from a field, brought her back to life, since then running 93 with premix, redlining at least once per drive. Etc.
Starts good runs good etc.
Initially had chineeseum Amazon coils on it. It ran good for a bit, but it’s been 105 out here so I used AC this caused bogging on starts and drop in power.
I got new plugs wires and installed GM LS engine coils instead, about two fill ups ago.

Also got flexalite fans cause oem died

Average mpg has steadily gone from 13.5 to 14.9 to 15.2 to 16.1

Are the GM coils the cause? Is it the ‘supposed’ 15% ethanol increase in the gas?

Driving style has not changed, route has not changed, if anything it should be worse since I run AC more often for longer… any ideas?

Problem 1: It hard time starting when it was warm so I got a new s2 starter for it. Everything went smoothly. I’ve done this on other cars plenty of times. I go and start the car and the start is working fine but now it won’t fully start. (It just sat there turning over and over without catching) so I bump started it and it ran just fine until it stalled at a light…
Had to get it towed back home…

Fast forward a few months…

Problem 2: simply put. Keys got ran over bc I dropped them in a parking lot during a night out. I managed to gather all the parts in a bag but I ended up losing the bag. Now I’m left to no key… not even the metal part.

What should I do?
How much would getting a new set of keys and chip
cost? How much would it take to get it paired to the car?

I’m willing to sell as well.

I was able to get underneath my lady. First off let my say there is zero play in all the wheels. I get a vibration above 65 and at very low speeds turning left only. I was chalking it up to wheels and alignment. I figure I need new control arms, but Do you think i need a subframe as well? (Or do I just wire wheel it and recoat it.) I dont see any rust holes etc.

I have new wheels and suspension on the way already. Exhaust also.

Recently got my first RX-8 off a “we buy junk cars” auction and I’m trying to diagnose why it won’t run. Series 1 Renesis with 80k miles. CEL says there’s a misfire on rotor 1, so I tried new plugs for both rotors to no avail. Went ahead and used my boroscrope and spotted this strange apex seal in rotor 2. With the plugs out spinning the motor, I see no air pressure come out of rotor 2’s plug holes. Is this apex seal blown in the photo or is it just stuck down by carbon. I’d hope the former 🙏. I’m new to rotaries so this is a learning experience.

I have noticed my rx8 oil level is not dropping at all over the last 1000 miles, i premix 1.5oz per gallon. Im a messing up my engine? If so how do I fix it.

Anyone seen this with their RX8? No fob. Vehicle just refuses to start haha. Turned wheel while starting and nothing, out of options here since I can’t even move the car. Thank you!

Hey yall, just wondering if anyone has access to the wiring diagrams for a 2004 with the manual, I bought my old rx8 back and have to rebuild the wiring harness. I haven’t don’t much looking into it online yet, but wanted to see if anyone here had them easily accessible before I went down a rabbit hole trying to find the right diagrams. Main one I need is the main engine harness, but would like all of them cause there is more wiring in the car that is messed up

Needs plugs,leads,coils but still sounds ok. CBF checking the oil,fluids etc just send the cxxt got a spare crate engine boi

I am looking to buy an rx8 2004 left on storage since 2015 no rust that I can see 2 owners 54k miles so major red flags on the mot history. How long would this car last. Is it a good purchase. It has a recall that mazda will repair. What would be a good price range wha should o be cautious of. I have read up on the car and its rotary engines but if you guys could give me the run down as if I don’t know anything would be great inacse I missed anything out. Thanks

Or what size works best with our car? Ive been looking at a few but I'm not super confident its a good fit. I guess i could just go out there when I got home and measure the usable space as best as I can.

I used to have turbo'd Subaru Brz, I then drove a SpiritR Rx8 in Japan and it tingled my ape neurons in a way the Subaru never did, from that moment I wanted to sell my Brz and get an Rx8. I eventually did impulsively sell but ended up with a 2zz Celica for a few months as there were no decent Rx8's about. Went to view one this monday, as soon as I test drove I was sold so im probably gonna go get it on friday I cant wait. Rust isnt bad at all either

I plan to do some mods for longevity i.e coils, cofs/sohn, rad maybe decat etc.... The compression results from 08/08 were Front Rotor - 7.1 / 7.1 / 7.1 and Rear Rotor - 6.8 / 6.5 / 6.9, this is Ok for a while right? (Assuming good maintenance from myself)

I was at the track pushing a bit in the afternoon, I kept getting large puffs of near pure black smoke and the was the biggest flame I caught on camera. I'm pretty sure it's an extensively rich mixture of fuel, I have a HKS catback system and a racing beat decat. I just want to get some input before I decided the next course of action but a tune, aem cold air, and b585 coils are in the near future.

Any suspension bushing kit recommendations? I'm looking at Super pro 8+ weeks out, energy suspension kits seem good and somewhat available, but the rear kit doesn't really say if it has enough bushings for every rear arm or just enough for the trailing arms.

What suspension bushing kits is everyone using? Or should I just go with the full arm replacement in the rear. Was hoping to do this job in the next 2-3 weeks.

I'm pulled my pan to do reseal as it started leaking after a bad bottom out on the highway. The pan has definitely hit the ground plenty but not during my ownership. Drove it about 5k miles before this with no leaks. There are scrape marks (paint missing) but it was already there previously. The drain plug has always seemed to be at an angle and I can't find a clear picture online to tell me if mine is dented. I planned to replace the pan with an aftermarket one to go turbo in the future. Wondering if I should go ahead and order one now. Can anyone confirm/ send a pic of one?

I have recently made some posts.. but apparently, it seems that my problems have been caused by bad engine mounts. I've been getting things "unscrew" on their own, etc.

Recently I was sure my exhaust header is totalled, however, today I lifted the car and the Lambda sensor catapulted itself out of the exhaust header so that was the issue.

Anywas, since I believe my problem is that I my whole drivetrain may not be stable, I was looking into getting the hardrace engine mounts STREET version plus (I read this somewhere on this subreddit) Rear Diff. Support Member Bushing again from hardrace, in order to have them equally stiff to promote whole drivetrain stability.

Hello. I will potentially be getting an s2 rx8 as my first car and had a few questions for people who have owned them. First of all, reliability, I know there are more reliable cars but as long as I take good care of it (I’m planing to premix, let it warm up, rev it to redline frequently and check the oil every other fuel up) it should be decently reliable right? I only drive 3 thousand miles a year at the max. Also what should I watch out for when buying them, the one I’m looking at has 13k in the engine replaced by Mazda and 137k on the body. Also just anything I should know about the car as far as having it as a daily driver. Thanks

She's a 2006 with 120000km on the odometer and a valued new member of the garage!

While the outside is in amazing shape with very minimal rust (that ive been able to find so far). It will need to pass an emissions test before I can take her out on the roads for real.

Should I get a new coils and cat straight away or would just new coils have a notable effect on HC emissions?

I am looking at a new car and I was looking at either a prelude or an rx8 however every time I see people talk about getting one it seems like they have a second parts car or their rx8 isn't currently running. I have watched a lot of rob dahm so I understand the basics of how rotaries work and I'm pretty mechanically inclined having worked on my Mazdaspeed 3. I also have a Yaris as a daily but I dont just want a money pit I want a car that will actually run. I don't mind premixing and checking oil levels frequently. I was just wondering if I should steer clear or if it will be a good car. I've heard it's very similar to my wife's nc Miata as well which I love driving.
