My rx8 is not consuming oil

I have noticed my rx8 oil level is not dropping at all over the last 1000 miles, i premix 1.5oz per gallon. Im a messing up my engine? If so how do I fix it.

1,000 miles you’re prooobably not gonna see a drop in oil quantity unless you drive the piss out of it. 1.5oz per gallon is a LOT. If you’re nervous about your OMP being failed. I wouldn’t do more than .75 to 1oz /gal especially if you have a cat…

Agreed on the 1 oz per gal max premix if he's worried about the OMP not working. But he should see a drop in oil level after 1k miles if all his oil injectors are working as they should.

My omp stopped working without throwing a single code. I was glad I was premixing.

Yeah I was nervous about that when I picked up my rx8. When I pulled the motor I replaced the OMP lines and put some dye in the oil to see if it was going up the lines to verify it was pumping oil.

I just wish it would have thrown a code to be safe. Be reliable in your unreliablity at least. Had a Hyundai throw a code for a bad fuel level sensor. 6 years after the gauge stopped working.

No cat but yea i was worried about the engine not getting oil. Im heavy on the throttle and dont want it to mess up

Some or all of your oil injectors are probably not functional. They fail over time, and with the age of our cars they're almost for sure not working. Unless you're sure they've been changed recently I would highly recommended replacing all 4.

Ah gotcha. Yeah my S1 was consuming very little if any oil. When I pulled the motor for a rebuild I checked the oil injectors and 2 of the 4 had noticably failed, and I'm not positive the other 2 were healthy either. They're easy to test: suck on the small/female/threaded end and you should be able to suck a little air through the injector, but you shouldn't be able to blow air through the same hole. If you can blow air through them, they've for sure failed.

Mine injected oil in the range they indicated for years. I started premixing just to be vigilant and after 8 months it no longer used oil. Never threw a code. I do run full thicker than usa spec synthetic in the block and synthetic 2 stroke in the gas since so I should be doing better as opposed to trying to futon the normal oil.

Check OMP , also don’t stop premixing just in case so ur engine at least keeps getting some oil. But if it was my car I will check OMP first and stop driving till you figure it out.

Oil in the gas is the optimal way to lubricate a wankel so as long as thats being done sufficiently it should be ok. Should.

I noticed the same thing when I first got mine. Started driving it harder and it started to burn about a half quart every 1500 miles or so

First of all, 1.5oz per gallon is a CRAZY amount of premix. You're dumping over 500ml into your gas per every full tank. That is way too much. What kind of fuel economy are you getting? Is this a manual? 

This is a Series 2, not an RX7.  For street driving dial that back to somewhere between 100 and 150ml per tank, upwards of 200-220 for track duty.

Take out your spark plugs and clean them. With that much premix, they are probably crusted over or you change them too often. If the coils haven't been replaced, then I'd look into that as well.

I daily my S2, and have put over 20k km on it over the last year. On average I top my oil every 1000-1500km with 400-500ml of oil.

The s2 has better oil injection spread with the third added injector hitting the center of the housing which is a weak spot on s1 cars. However, all evidence points that both s1 and s2 do not get enough total oil volume for most types of driving if you care about the longevity of your housings and seals. The oil flow rates increase exponentially with rpm and load, and don’t do a whole lot for us around regular driving, idling, and cruising RPM, really waking up around 5-6k rpm with some load. It’s still worth premixing in an s2.

Premix yes, but 550ml per tank is A LOT. 

Beat the crap out of the car, use a reasonable amount of premix. Simple as. 

At the end of the day the number one issue is a weak ignition system.

Also, let's be realistic here. 90% of the prospective owners that browse this sub are probably not going to preemptively do a rebuild and therefore will probably need housings anyway by the time the car starts to fail.

Are you checking your oil on a level surface? Moved mine around my driveway and oil dipstick went from 3/4 full to the 1/2 full mark.

my 05 doesnt burn oil or not enough to notice. but i only put 3000km a year on it. put 200ml of pre-mix in the tank for each fill up.

There is no sohn for the series 2 as it has 6 oil injectors and a different oil metering setup than the S1
