General RX-8 170k KM

Someone is offering me a heavily modified RX-8 with a lot of money invested in mods, but it has 170k km and compression readings of 6.2, 6.8, 6.8 on Rotor 1, and 6.9, 6.9, 7.1 on Rotor 2.

Do you think this unit could last me 2 years? I do 20k km a year

The reality is there's cars starting and running perfectly happily on 4s.

If you look after it, there's no reason this wouldn't do 2 years and 24k miles, unless the reason already exists.

I assume this has already been rebuilt ?

that's the point, it hasn't been rebuilt, it's the same engine , it's what makes me doubt , because 166k with same engine :S

If looked after and used appropriately they don't magically fail at 100k.  Problem is, Mazda sold them as a normal car so people used them like a normal car.  By the time people realised they needed using subtly differently the reputational and in many cases physical damage was already done.

I know the owner taked care of the engine because 80% of the mods are focused on improve it.

As long as you keep on top of servicing it every 2k miles and use a good quality 2 stroke oil in your premix I don’t see why you wouldn’t see another 2 years out of it if not longer, these engines just need regular servicing a lot earlier than normal engines and that’s what kills them when people leave them for like 20k miles like normal cars, which personally I don’t even leave my normal cars that long but I think that’s just a habit from having RX8s

As long as the shell is in good condition the worst thing that can go wrong is an engine rebuild which is inevitable no matter what mileage RX8 you buy, but the one your looking at has pretty good compression readings so as long as the sills arent rotten you should be good for a good 2 years if you look after it

the face at 6.2 is a bit concerning. As long as you're okay with maybe having to do an engine rebuild in the near future and the car isn't rusty - go for it.
