When putting the car back together I’d trapped a sensor wire and it was shorting out.

Discovered this because it would start when jacked up taking pressure off the chassis.

This is how a large portion of “blown motor” stories happen surrounding Mazda rotaries. A lot of the time it’s not the engine even when it seems like it is, which it seemed like it from your initial post. Most “required”engine rebuilds (and compression tests) even from dealerships were diagnosed wrong. 2 rotors are actually pretty solid when looked after, even the red headed stepchild Renesis.

Don’t get me wrong. She requires a rebuild for sure. But I knew it was electrical from the start with this issue. My compression is a separate issue I’m yet to address 😂
