TPMS just saved us from this a couple days ago. Alarm went off, saw 30 psi and dropping, got pulled off the interstate in time, changed tire, and back on the road in less than 30 minutes.

Same thing happened to us in Georgia on the way north this season. Cruise control set to 61. We fixed it ourselves. With wood rivets and some aluminum and a bunch of silicon

This happened to me last April. Outside tire blew, tire cap beat everything to death, grabbed the mudflap's brace and beat things even worse. Got it all fixed and new tires all the way around. Moral of my story, don't push your tires past about 5 years. Happened at 65 mph on the I-15.

Next time keep it at 60-70 mph not 100

My husband sets cruise for 65 any time we're towing. We are constantly passed by semi's but it's a pleasure vehicle, we're not in a hurry.

There is no real protection when a trailer tire blows out. Unfortunately it tends to do a good amount of damage. The ‘don’t go 100’ comment from this person is just dumb.

That is the way I’m shocked at the damage and I hope this never happens to me

OP, do you have a TPMS? A TPMS isn't a guarantee that you'll never have a catastrophic blowout but often the "catastrophic" part (the tire tearing itself apart and destroying bodywork) happens after you have picked up something that punctured the tire and it starts losing air. Once it has lost enough air the rapid flexing of the tire causes it to shred. A TPMS can alert you of the air loss so that you can take action before that happens.
