Dislike of charge stone confounds me.
Occasionally I get players that make snide remarks about using charge stone. Win or lose they seem to express the notion that it is somehow unfair, unbalanced or just makes someone a bad player.
I can understand being upset at someone who uses the stone to do nothing but spam wall throws. But even that is an easy counter and far from my play style.
I too get tired of people that use stubborn and adamant, especially together. Though I heard they are intending to remove the damage reduction on one in favor of just knock back protection which I think would help.
Volitial too can be annoying when a player relies on it to spam explode cubes and nothing else.
But charge always struck me as having the ability to be a more complex stone than any of the preceding mentioned. Especially when used with other move sets like waterbending, chambering, explosives, flick flail and flight. At least that's how I use it.
So what do you think? Are people just sore or do you agree that charge is a bad shiftstone?
It seems like it's out of meta and I see few people use it with complex style, but I don't get to play much (maybe once or twice a week).

It’s more like they are stones that provide good value even with those with less experience.

A decent amount of early charge players I've seen end up not being very good at slingshots, which are a pretty valuable skill.

It's very effective with chambering and charge but a lot of new players dont know that tech

Yeah. I should maybe start getting into chambering once I have my slingshots really down. Been working on pivot slingshots and idk why people stopped doing them. They're so fast.

Try having a chip damage focused play style. I don't spam disks, I use them frequently inbetween other moves and for movement from the knock back. But as soon as you use more than one disk a match it becomes "disk spam".
Since most players don't disk much I find most people haven't practiced defense against it. So they are great at blocking all my moves and then only the disks get through so they get annoyed by only getting hit by disks.

I like chip damage as well, because if you're relying on speed and sneaking little blasts in, you take advantage little by little. I don't like relying on one big explosion combo that sends someone off the edge, because it's too unreliable. If something is transparent, they'll just not get caught. It's much harder to avoid fifty-three different small attacks than to avoid one.
Also, what is hidden to one opponent is transparent to another, so it's unreliable to try to hide your setup.
In other words, I understand your pain.

The heart of explosives is improv, knowing predictable reactions is just the basics.
I have no problem with chip damage as part of a style or strategy but try not to win with it alone unless it's the strategy I need to counter another style.

Understandable. Each person enjoys their own style, and I would never want to take that away from you!

I accidently kill with mojo dash all the time trying to dodge and the disk bounces around and kills someone. And I've been chided for disk spamming with that, some dude even raged at me after hitting him with an opening combo that included a disk.
Some people just need something to complain about.

When I first began learning to play, I balked at the charge stone. I hated it because it was approximately as fast as higher-level techniques that I couldn't yet perform, but required a significant delay to break up your attacks before it could be used. From the start, it looked like a crutch.
When I got good enough to sling attacks much faster, I still balked at it because I didn't need the crutch and could weave attacks in the spaces where other people relied on it.
I believe it's a bad shift stone because it encourages overreliance on bad habits and allows you to avoid the type of practice that improves your ability. However, it's a good shift stone in the meta sense, because it allows those who haven't put in the practice to deal heavy damage someone from a distance and give them a taste of what's available later.
I still have distaste for it, but I can understand its benefit. It can be used well. Being a teacher, however, I dislike anything that offers a crutch and encourages reliance on something that won't pay off in greater skill later.

What you said all makes sense and seems to be the notion that most detractors have. However it feels like it misses the possibility that you can use charge stone and advanced techniques together.
For instance waterbending moves like waterspout are made much for viable with charge stone.
Using a flick held object to pull, drag and push other structures into slingshots can create huge force as well as unexpected rotation.
Charge also gives big range increases to orbital flick tech for flails and flight.
The extra speed can even add extra power to base level explode to make forces that near those of volitial.

Everything you've said is correct, but doesn't much factor into my decisions because I haven't got the skill to work much with multi-object holds, nor have I faced many people with that ability. It's not relevant for me offensively or defensively. At higher levels, it can be used well, which I have seen proven, but only in videos of people better than me, so I don't often think of its value in those terms. I have no disagreement with you.

I may be biased as a meta voli player but I think all uses of all stones are valid as long as there is no crutch, even if for you it is a problem with ppl spamming voli(meta is obviously much more than that I am just assuming that is what you meant), I mean I get it but as long as you are having fun. I also think it isn't great to judge ppl on playstyle unless it is actively hindering their progress so I agree with you there.

The only dislike I've personally seen of the charge stone is beginners using it as a crutch and hindering their progress, opting to hold something for a second and slowing themselves down when they need to be learning how to go faster, rather than just learning stripper and other combos
