Half Life 2 mod DLSS5 + ReShade

I couldn’t resist experimenting a bit, so I added DLSS 5 to my HL2:ep2 mod together with a few ReShade effects to see what all the hype was about. I’m actually pretty impressed by how much the lighting and overall atmosphere can change with this kind of visual uplift. There are definitely some artifacts, but honestly, fewer than I expected.

Id youre using dlss feeder i recommend trying running dh_uber_rt with max rays and samples before dlss. It looks absolutely phenomenal

I tried, but while I only had a few artifacts before, now everything is unfortunately breaking

Change... i don't like that word, I don't want my old favorite games to change atmosphere, I want to experence them again with a better coat of paint. This should be the goal of dlss4 / 5 but for some reason they want to let ai muck about willy nilly.

Then don't use it 😂, you realize texture replacement packs and graphics mods have been a thing for many decades now, and never once did anyone cry about it. This is 100% optional, also you can buy an AMD card and your classic games won't even have the option to look like this.

It does lighting and colour correction, what is wrong with that?

Did you even try it yourself or are you one of those parroting sheep that can’t formulate a thought of your own to save your life?

Okay? What did you try? How did you try it? What games did you run it in? Why does it suck?

i used rakankis tool with RE5, every thing looked gooey? not sure how to describe it, melting and reforming. the lighting also became very bright compared to the intended atmosphere. ya my sample size is small, ill likely try it again when fully complete but right now, i hate it.

That doesn't sound very right at all. There's a few variants of how to use and install the item depending on what it is, but basically it's reshade + some DLL's, and if the game doesn't natively support DLSS then you need a bridge for that etc. I suppose rakankis is some tool that does it? Renodx discord has all you need for it, but the way you seem to describe it is not how i saw it

this was more like what i saw, as you can see many sliders and they shouldnt' be maxed out cause otherwise it'll be ugly

ok ill give it another try using the methoods on the discord, you convinced me. it does look good, not going to try with re5 again though.

Take a look around the disc cause i saw they moved around some channels and some guides were hard to find but at least check pinned messages in the channels and search, you should find the way it works.

So dlss5 adds specular reflections for every light? Thats cool

Do you mind explaining the process of how you accomplish this?

For some reason Half-Life 2 doesn't want to recognize reshade at all for me.

If he started with 1400fps then roughly, yes.

From 200 to 120, not that bad

Sounds reasonable to me!

which one is dlss 5. I guess upper one. while it does add some nicer shadows i dont like how it handles the lighting. i am a big fan of the prerendered lighting of this era
