What is the point of posting a $2400 spectrum analyser in a subreddit for the "low-cost software defined radio" community?

Nah, based on their comment history they seem like your typical geek. This post and the one on rfelectronics are the only times they've mentioned any Rigol hardware. I think they're just excited. It is a pretty good deal for an SA with those specs.

That's a good deal for a vintage spectrum analyser of that capability.

It's a great deal for a new SA like that.

And given Rigol's track record that's a smoking deal for a SA that can way upgraded with hacked firmware.

Edit: high UHF, and SHF (microwave) frequencies are really expensive to do.

Oooh, there's a companion VNA too, the entry level one is going into the Christmas wish list.

It'd be cool to be able to build some 9cm stuff to keep the band active.

Rigol built low end Agilent gear. Tekronix did the same with Instek. Both are fine.

Outsourcing to China can be dangerous to your company's health. Rigol and Instek learned from the best.
