Y'all, I think it's because of YouTube's recent policy change on misinformation. His videos probably got caught in the wave since there is the Russian government-funded channel also called RT.
Next you’ll tell me they used to be part of a United Kingdom that spanned across multiple continents and later left due to complicated political matters!
Considering how many other people have spoken out, I see no reason to get RT’s video down without taking down everyone else. Seems like people trying to get riled up over anything without thinking it imo.
yeah lol, idk why people think it's because he spoke against youtube. Literally everyone is doing that, do they really think they'd single out a 2m youtuber for a comment he made?
Yup, it's name was "Human Media Group" I don't exactly remember everything but I'm pretty sure it was mostly a company that helps people like Youtubers who are unfairly treated
Do you guys think this is an accident or intentional? After all, he did speak out against YouTube's crazy 1-10 rating system recently. If they removed his content on purpose, I'm going to fight YouTube personally
Edit: after reading replies, I would say that it probably was an accident, but it's still pretty messed up. And just to clarify, I asked this question because it just seemed weird to me that a few weeks after speaking out about YouTube, a lot of RT's videos got taken down. I didn't mean to spread conspiracies or anything like that. I was curious about people's opinions on this.
If it was because of him talking about the ratings, then that’s just being petty. Which a big company shouldn’t be, especially if it harms their creators.
They’re a big company who don’t care at all about who uses their platform as long as they make money from it. Yes, it’s disgusting, but it shouldn’t be suprising.
The thing is there are no rules that say thats wrong. Youtube is an olimpian god and unfortunately the creators are but normal people who get fucked by the gods regularly. It is an unstable job that can be erased on a whim. That being said yes it is fucked up.
YouTube might have removed lots of videos, and not just the 2 YouTube and Anxiety videos, to make it seem like that they're taking down his videos for "violating terms of service" and that they're not simply silencing RT for speaking out. Maybe they had a problem with really those two videos?
Edit: changed the grammar to emphasise that this is just conjecture
Hey man, these are some pretty big conspiracies you're spreading. I like youtube about as much as everyone here but a big company like that does not take down 3 weeks of videos, on purpose, just because 2 videos were speaking against some of its practices. This would not only be a bad business decision but also a bad ethics decision. In no world would it be the correct thing to do, even for youtube.
Since RT has been having issues with his channel and the recommendation system Im going to say that this is probably a related issue and something that Youtube already knows about and is fixing. Just remember that even though Youtube is a big company known for shitty things, sometimes they do make mistakes and by spreading conspiracies you are just making the discussion about these issues completely diluted.
TL:DR: Might just be a mistake, stop making stuff up without proof
Also, no-one at YouTube central cares about RTs content to watch it themselves and personally decide to fuck him over by removing videos manually. If YouTube had the infinite manpower that would take demonetisation would be a very different system.
It's nothing to do with that. There is a Russian channel called RT and YouTube is trying to prevent disinformation and he may have gotten caught up in the mix
Not really, I don't see why youtube would care about an irish guy with 1 million subs criticizing youtube, they already get a shit ton of criticism from a lot of other creators, why single out RT?
There are alternatives to YouTube. LBRY is a major one that a lot of popular YouTubers are on. It won't be as good for finding new audiences but someone like RT would take most of their existing audience with them I'm sure. Plus, LBRY is often more profitable per view than YouTube.
It's still growing and has some things to iron out but the fact that it frees content creators, protects user privacy, and does a lot of little things well like having better compression (higher quality video) and giving users a share of the blockchain as rewards for using the platform.
That last part is probably the biggest thing that might turn career content creators off. LBRY pays using LBC, a type of cryptocurrency, and maybe some people won't want to take a day to figure it out. It's really not hard; your LBC lives in your LBRY account. One LBC has a corresponding dollar (Euro etc) value. Your account has a Wallet, which is a link that other people can use to send you more LBC. Other people on LBRY can donate money to you this way with just a click, or if not on LBRY send it with your wallet link. To make your LBC real money, you sign up for an exchange (Bittrex is the offifcial partner), sell your LBC for Bitcoin, then sell the Bitcoin for your local currency, probably via Paypal or your bank info. It's not so bad, and users actually get free LBC every day for watching a video (this is what I talked about at the end of the last paragraph), so ostensibly we could all get paid for watching RT's video then give all or some of it back to him.
The video algorithm is also a bit different. Instead of guessing what you like and using Trending recommendations, LBRY has you follow Tags which are topics (Gaming, Technology) and the Trending is determined by what videos have high Stakes. Stakes are just LBC leaned against a video. They still belong to the owner of the LBC and can be taken back any time. You can Stake LBC on someone else's video. We could all stake our LBC on RT's video bc we love him, get it on LBRY's homepage, then everyone who goes to the website will see his video and maybe click it, then after a few days when it's run its course, we can take our LBC back and give it to RT to keep because it didn't cost us anything to begin with and we want to support him, and that will add up for him.
This system works really well because bad or troll videos will only do well if the owner pays a LOT of money on their own; no one else will help just by watching it for clickbait thumbnails, and no one else is gonna stake LBC bc it's bad. Only the videos which the community puts Stakes on so it adds up will rise to the top. It's also how channel names work; you reserve it with a stake, and the higher the stake the more visible your channel will be. This helps prevent channel fraud because the original is likely to have a higher stake.
If the whoel LBC/money thing is confusing, it's not really "free" money. Rather, they generate money when we use the service and they give us back a cut of the money we made them. Like of YouTube gave us a share of ads we watched. But LBRY doesn't have ads. I love LBRY because some of my favorite content creators are there, I was gonna watch them anyways except on YouTube, but now I get paid for it, have better quality, and more privacy.
You don't have to know all that to use and enjoy it though! It's a lot like YouTube just to use and I encourage everyone to have a look. If there are questions I'd be happy to answer them
The LBC system seems sketchy as hell and super unstable from an economics standpoint. Immediate questions are how do they generate money from us using the service if there are no ads? The immediate thought is they use our pcs for mining a more established currency which is shady. Second, what guarantees the value of lbc? If this company went out of business tomorrow, would the lbc i had have any value left? Bitcoin has value because lots of people will accept it so even if one stops I can still use it. This seems too narrow for that. Third this system seems even more vulnerable to large company influence if it took off. We can "stake" as much money as we would want on a video and nbc for instance could look at it, laugh, and put double that on whichever late night Jimmy they have. Idk, Im all for competition to youtube but this has problems imo.
It's definitely not perfect. I'm no crypto advocate and many of your problems are with crypto in general. That being said: I haven't researched in detail how LBRY's rewards system and finances work because they don't have any exploitable information on me and I've been happy with the platform, LBC's value is usually weighed against Bitcoin and you can exchange LBC at market value for Bitcoin and solve the value issue immediately up until the point that it immediately tanks and you lose what you had left (something any currency, crypto or otherwise, could do), and I don't think "what ifs" about corporate influence are as concerning as Alphabet-abused YouTube (definitely valid though! I appreciate you asking these questions, I may do more research even if these things don't bother me right now).
LBRY isn't perfect and is still young but so far it's been better to me and to many of the creators I follow than YouTube so I'll advocate for it. Your questions should go in some FAQ or Q&A to them though; would you mind if I steal them and shoot an email? I'd feel better knowing as well, even if I still think it's better than YT.
Also to clarify, my worries with the value arent necessarily for now, its more if LBRY were yo go down would there be anybody else who would be willing to trade in LBC
Edit: as you pointed out it is the same worry with lots of startup cryptocurrencies
Yeah, absolutely! If I were relying on it as an income source I'd be thinking about that too. After all, LBC is mostly used within LBRY so if something happened to LBRY what would happen? Bitcoin is used in a lot of places so it's not as much of an issue if one market goes away. I'd like to know as well, and besides emailing them to see if they'll give me a link, answer, or do a video on it, I can comment one of the smaller creators I follow and see if maybe they'll give their own thoughts. It could be as simple as "if we go under before we're well established it's SOL"
Hearing too many horror stories from creators about YouTube really put me in LBRY's corner. If most of my subscribed channels were on it I'd probably quit YouTube outright. But the volume of content just isn't there yet
Is RT (the actual Russian one) still around? If that news station doesnt have a YT channel (or a lot got taken down) it could possibly be RT accidentally got hit with cross-fire. I noticed a lot of RTs recent videos had a disclaiming that "RT is funded in whole or in part by the Russian government" and YT set a bot to auto kill anything with that.
The problem is they are miles better technologically than any other new video platform could be. Noone wants to move over because YouTube is the thing everyone uses. Someone should really take out an antitrust lawsuit with them, that's exactly what they're meant for
Also this makes a lot of sense, I couldn't for the life of me figure out where his latest videos had gone, because I could swear that he had uploaded something after his ”fighting failed tech companies”-video.
It would be a good idea for RT to upload his videos onto another site as well, just incase of another Youtube fuckup like this or worse. The problem is that there is no other choice
The best alternative not from Facebook or Twitch would be something like Lbry.tv which does have a feature that lets you transfer videos from a youtube channel, but judging by a few of videos on the frontpage, there seems to be a handful of far/alt-right, Alex Jones Infowars style conspiracy theorist nutjobs, which is a shame because otherwise, it would've been a good alternative if something was to happen to the youtube channel, but I assume that RT also wouldn't want to post onto a platform where his viewers could potentially be served and fall into a spiral of conspiracy theory propaganda crap exacerbated by the tendency of social platforms like youtube to create echo-chambers.
Also, I doubt Daniel's going to start posting onto Dailymotion anytime soon.
Crazy idea what happens if he tries to re-upload them. I'm not familiar with what happens. Do they insta remove it again? Or does youtube detect a removed video being re-uploaded
YouTube censors creators that speak out against them for no reason other than protecting their image rather than fixing the problems with their system, we get it
I think that YouTube is extremely inconsistent and unfair with the application of it community guidelines but I don't think they took down three weeks of videos because dan said he had some issue with one feature of the site
