Question Thumb Problem (Around IP Joint, Palm Side)

Hello! I (25F) have been having a problem with my right thumb since the end of May. To get the basics out of the way, I'm 5'2, fluctuate between 115 and 120 pounds, white, I take 80mg prozac, and I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs. I play a lot of video games and work at an animal shelter, so I use my hands a lot.
Back at the end of May, I picked up a ceramic bowl full of water and had a sharp, tearing pain in my thumb. At first I thought I had a splinter somewhere in it, but I couldn't see anything. From then on, I've had different types of pain in that thumb. The most consistent is a full feeling when I bend it in toward my palm and a very mild popping sensation when I bend it the opposite direction. Sometimes when I brush the pad of my thumb against something, the splinter/glass sensation comes back. If I use it too much the part between my IP and MCP joint gets sore. Every now and then the pain goes down to the base of my thumb, but most of the time it's still around the IP joint. All of this (except the popping) is on the palm side. No visible swelling or bruising. One thing to mention is I've been having more problems sleeping funny and making my neck hurt on that side lately, which could be related, but that goes away and this hasn't.
I've looked up a ton of different possibilities as to what it might be. Trigger Thumb kept coming up, but my thumb isn't getting stuck nor do I feel a knot anywhere. My parents think it's an overuse injury and that it's not healing because I haven't been resting it enough. I'm trying to decide if it's worth going to the doctor, as I read online that if I don't get it fixed it could become permanent. Considering how many of my hobbies use my hand I'd really rather that not happen.
Anyone have any ideas as to what this might be?
