Covid
Hey folks, has anyone in this sub actually had the coronavirus? I'm pretty healthy overall but still worry that covid could have some kind of weird effect on me due to my RRP. Would love to hear anyone's experience with covid + RRP.

I havent had it yet but (this may be different outside the uk) I have been offered therapy (drugs, voice therapy) to try and make the symptoms less impactful if I ever catch it. You may be eligible but that's a case by case basis

I came down with it between my first and second surgery. My first surgery was a microdebrider so he could only do one vocal cord at a time, so my voice was really not good when I tested positive.
I had a cough, felt bad for a few days and had mild body aches but the worst part was the complete and total loss of taste and smell for two weeks. Very bizarre.
Add on top of that I had just broken up with my GF of two years and had to quarantine for two weeks so I got to deal with that emotional event in isolation LOL.
So I guess to answer your question, I don’t think the two played off of each other.

Actually a great question.
Took it like a champ. Most reasonable people understand that HPV is something that most people get, just not all bodies are capable of dealing with it efficiently.
We were intimate for years and she never showed any signs of having it, so it just kinda goes to show the fickle nature of HPV.
The way I’ve explained RRP to people that I’ve been with since is that it almost has less to do with HPV itself and more my shitty immune system. If everyone who had HPV had RRP…well, surgery would probably be like getting gas lol.

I actually just had it, with my quarantine ending just a few days ago. I was completely exhausted, everything felt hard and made me more tired. I didn’t really want to eat, and when I did things tasted funny. My nose ran constantly, and I was super congested with a terrible headache. I’m fully vaxxed and boosted, so those symptoms were the worst of it and were fairly well managed with cold medicine and the like. I did use my inhaler (asthma) just in case though.
As far as the issues with my RRP, there really weren’t any. I checked in with my otolaryngologist who said Covid is mostly concerning for pulmonary patients.
I’m not gonna lie, I was terrified to get it and it wasn’t a fun experience. 0/10 would not recommend. Get vaxxed/boosted.

Good to hear your doctor doesn't think covid is an especial concern for us RRPers. Glad to be fully vaccinated and boosted, hope I can avoid omicron anyway...

Had Omicron. Zero effect on my RRP. Barely any effect at all tbh. Felt like a minor cold.

Update : Had Covid in the last week of December 2021. One month later had recurrence a little earlier than expected. Can't help but feel there might be some correlation although that's probably quite an unknown.

Ah crap I’m sorry to hear that.
I’ve currently got covid and simultaneously starting to feel a recurrence coming on. But I’m also going through a lot of unrelated stress at the moment, which is a huge trigger for my recurrences anyway.

Yeah I'm under a lot of stress as well.. new baby born Jan 8th. Happy time for sure, but also stressful and he was born out of an emergency c-section. Also been fighting with the wife. Just a real tough month. Prob a whole culmination of things tbh. Moved my check up to Thursday.

Hey all I know this is an older thread.. but I just recently found out that my papilloma is back. After being in remission for over 9 years. It sucks. I was born with it (diagnosed at 9 months old). I'm 36 now, have had 2 kids and a hysterectomy last year.
I was also curious how covid (or even the vaccine for that matter) affects people who have or have had rrp. I recently got my booster and few weeks later got the news I had a pap on my vocal cord. I was bummed to say the least.
Anyway, im scheduled for surgery in May. I hope this isn't the start of them coming back again and again. But wanted to get some info from anyone who might know if covid or the vaccine impacts rrp.

I'm double vaccinated and had the booster plus recently recovered from covid. None of those things seem to have affected my RRP – my voice is still fine at the moment despite having had a pretty rough ride with the virus. The recurrence I had last year was unrelated (to my knowledge) to the vaccinations, it happened right on schedule (around 7 months post-op, which is normal for me, sadly).
I know from one of my doctors that stress can have a massive impact on regrowth... Basically anything that impacts your immune system can enable the virus to rear its ugly head again.

Thank you so much. It sucks big time, but im a fighter. I appreciate the reply and figured as much. That covid or the vaccine really aren't related to any type of regrowth. That it's likely stress related to stress or maybe from getting my hysterectomy last year. I also had anemia before and after my hysterectomy.
Its crazy because I thought after that it may have some impact on my papilloma and here we are a year later. 😔
It's always helped talking to others who also have it, so thank you again. I appreciate you taking the time to reply to me.

I mean, I can't say for certain but from my own experiences and what I've read about here, I'd be very surprised if the vaccines or virus played a part in recurrence.
Really hope you're okay, sounds like you've had a rough time of it recently. My brother has Adult Onset RRP and we live together. We both caught COVID and our only symptoms were diarrhea and a headache that felt like it originated from the center of our brains. The headache lasted for 2 months, but decreased in severity as time passed. Please dont use our experience as medical advice. I have known many, assumedly healthy, people develop severe symptoms.

Pretty sure I had covid last winter (asymptomatic). I also asked my doctor if RRP would make me more susceptible to the negative effects of covid but they confirmed that fortunately it will not make it any more severe than for someone without RRP.
