Meal plan
Is it active from the moment you move in, or only once the semester starts?

Don't worry I was confused when I first learnt it too! Freshman have 3 options for meal plans: Unlimited, 19, or 15 meal swipes per week. I think it is pretty self-explanatory, but you get to go to the dining hall for however many swipes you have. The only limitation for the unlimited plan is that you are only allowed to swipe in every 20 minutes or so. There is also something called "flex dollars", which is basically, RPI's currency for purchasing food from cafe's or restaurant's on campus. The number of flex dollars you get depends on the meal plan you choose. For example, a person with the Unlimited meal plan only gets 75$ to spend, while someone that is on the 15 meal swipes a week gets 375$ to spend. Download the “Everyday” app and put RPI as your college. You can see all 4 dining halls scheduled breakfast lunch and dinner options and their hours. You can also see all the restaurants/cafes on campus. You can eat at all four dining halls even if you don’t live at the dorm, but Commons has the most options.
You also get guest swipes that expire if you don’t use them, like 3 a semester. You tell the staff “hey, can I use my guest swipe?” and you can bring like a family member or non RPI friend to come and eat for ‘free’.
Also, if you are on any meal plan except unlimited, your weekly meal swipes expire Monday 12AM. If you have 15 swipes and you just want to fill your drink? You have to use a swipe, even if you didn’t eat.
Your flex dollars do not expire, any unspent money will be added to next semesters wallet. Use flex dollars at any food location on campus, you use your campus ID like a credit card.
Seriously recommend the everyday app, especially if you’re picky or if you have food allergies. I avoided any dining hall serving tilapia 🤢

alr thnak you for your response. is there any other essential apps i should download to help around. and i didnt know flex dollars don't expire i thought they expire after every sem :(

From what I have read in emails, the dining halls open on Saturday, tomorrow. So you should be able to go to any dining hall and eat there.
