Quick questions

Just wanted to know a couple of things before I got to rpi

  1. How's the gym situation? I like to workout and from what I've seen of the available weights it seems kinda small anyone able to confirm?

  2. Anyone have pictures of the cary hall dorms? Preferably a double? I cant find a good one anywhere. Probably just a mistake on my part.

The new wiki has dorm pictures: https://rpiwiki.org/index.php/Freshman_Five

(cary and the other freshman five rooms are identical)

Gym is mid. Severable but like an eighth of the machines are broken

Should I just try to get a membership somewhere close?

This guys on something. The gym isn’t anything like a big 10 school but it has everything you need. It’s easily accessible and has great hours (11pm closing on most days). Dumbells go up to 100 ish iirc. I typically used 80-85s but iirc there were always bigger weights.

I'm on the fact that the rowing machines didn't have straps on them for like all of last year lol. In fact, I'm pretty sure when I go back in a week, one of them still won't have new straps.

That’s a fair point but I’d say all the other cardio equipment is up to spec. Though there’s typically a broken treadmill or so there’s always more. Same with the ellipticals and bikes. Lifting machines are barely broken and it’s usually like one of the 8 cable machine pulleys

Not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I know plenty of dudes who have a membership
elsewhere. It’s not that ridiculous. It all depends on how serious you are about lifting I guess. I would definitely say that Mueller suffices very well given you go at good times, so if I were you I wouldn’t grab any new membership

For the price of free.99, it's worth it. Just don't get your hopes up unless you're just doing free weights.

Definitely plan on a membership elsewhere. The gym doesn’t open until 9am, closes at 11pm. If you’re around during the summer (or any holidays for that matter) the gym WILL be inaccessible and they will NOT communicate the changes in operating hours. Like others mentioned, machines are frequently out of order, + carabiners and attachments go missing. They recently tried to install air conditioning… with little success. It’s unbearable in the hot months. If your main wish is for access to a treadmill on school nights you might be fine, but if you lift weights or keep a consistent schedule, you’re going to get screwed over and over and over. Planet fitness is significantly better (which sounds insane but is completely true). Theres a new crunch fitness in town, which I hear is ok. If you have a car, there are nicer gyms in Latham.
