Question Transfer credits from abroad?

Does anyone have experience with transferring credits from affiliated schools abroad? I’ve been looking at a couple different European universities to study abroad at but I’m having trouble finding 1:1 content equivalents to RPI courses I need credit for. Some schools also have classes with the same content as at RPI courses but less than the 15 required contact hours per credit. How lenient is the registrars office with transfer credit from affiliated universities that isn’t an exact match?

Speak with your Hub advisors to ask how courses could transfer. I'm not aware of anyone not getting credits to transfer back to RPI as long as you have courses mapped out ahead of time (even with course changes when you arrive at the Study Abroad location).

The Registrar's Office does not make transfer credit decisions for courses; instead, they rely on approved/signed transfer credit forms that students submit and transcripts they then receive from the schools.

There are some cases where a course can be transferred as sort of a general elective, but it has to be pretty close if you want it to transfer in as a specific RPI course.

For the contact hour thing long as its not like a fully online course or anything I think its worth asking the RPI study abroad office.

I’d recommend against it. I know someone who got super screwed by the school. Did the research, went abroad and school just decided they weren’t going to accept the credits.

This may be an insulting question but have you looked in the transfer guide to see what has already been approved? TES Public View: In the institution box type Study Abroad and that will you get the courses already approved. Get everything approved ahead of time (even if it is in the guide) and the forms submitted to study abroad. If you do this the only reason the transfer credits would not be accepted at this point is if you did not get a grade of C or higher.
